I had one of the old bead blasted versions of the Hornet and I never cared for it.
1) For the reasons that Dr. Lecter stated.
3) The grip shape worked well for me but the alum. frame felt slippery around the edges (except where there was jimping).

My own design tweak on the Clinch Pick
With pointy Ronin-like Wharnie blade, flip-side chisel grind, Gripping grooves all the way 'round the handle, milled translucent G-10 with olive G-10 pins, tang under handle has 3 drilled lightening holes.
