Squirrel of TERROR!!!
Squirrel of TERROR!!!
From Fownews.com:
Sinister Squirrel Embarks on Seven-Day Reign of Terror
t seems the residents of Winter Park, Fla., can rest easy as unspeakable evil has met its just end.
It was an unrivaled force of destruction capable of inspiring sheer terror in the hearts of the stoic. It was a sinister picnic crasher ****-bent on havoc. It was a vicious villain who seemed to take pleasure in inflicting injury on the innocent.
It was a squirrel. And it was one bad rodent.
When word spread about the demise of the squirrel in Winter Park's Central Park, more and more of its victims came forward with tales of unprovoked fury and picnics crashed.
Dylan Osborne, 19, says he could’ve ended the critter’s seven-day reign of terror if authorities would’ve heeded his call, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
He and his friends were celebrating a birthday in the park when they came face to face with the furry fiend’s fury. The squirrel jumped on his friend, latched on to her leg and bit her. When they shook it off, it attacked her shoes as they lay by the fountain.
When Osborne went to swat it away, it turned on him.
"It started getting in attack position towards me," he said.
Osborne caught the critter mid-flight in a cake box and called the authorities, but after a few hours the squirrel began chewing through his impromptu cage. Even after trading the box for a bucket, they were forced to let the menace free after waiting for city workers who never came.
"I was furious," Lance Osborne, Dylan’s father, said. "My son basically sat on top of this squirrel on a cake box and on a bucket in downtown Winter Park, and no one did anything about it."
"Normally we don't respond to squirrels," Dil Luther, assistant manager for the animal-services division, said.
Alisa Cox and her 3-year-old son, Carson, were walking through the park when they saw a frightened woman being chased by a squirrel coming in their direction.
Before they knew it, the squirrel gave up on the lady and went medieval on Carson’s leg.
"He's just so terrified," Cox said. "He told his daddy, 'I want you to go back there and run him over with the car.'"
Authorities were eventually able to catch the squirrel with a litter trapper, but not before a failed attempt in which they tried to subdue it with pepper spray.
"All it does is fuel my fires that it's been going on for a full week," said James Klute, whose son was attacked while kicking a soccer ball in the park. "Once it happens once, someone should go out and do something."

Nothing Like a .357 Magnum to stop vicious squirels in their tracks...first take a dollar bill wrap it around a quarter and take another quarter and smack the quarters together rapidly...this is the sound of another squirel cracking nuts....when they approach whip out your canon....Doc :D

Now the three elderly ladies who trained "fluffy" to come running up to them and nibble peanuts out of their hands will be in mourning for a week. So sad. I'm moved to tear (one's enough, don't feel the need to overdo the sympathy bit).

According to a Documentary I saw last winter on the "Animal Planet" channel it documented the World's 10 most intelligent animals. If my memory serves me well the Squirrel was rated at about 4 or 5 out of all the animals on our wonderful planet.
There was also a Documentary on Squirrels on the Discovery Channel a couple of years ago. Oddly enough this one was done over in England. And the documentary showed just how horribly difficult it is to keep squirrels out of bird feeders and other types of feeding devices. It blew me away as to how the squirrels would pull out all the stops as far as conquering their objectives. They truly are fascinating little critters. I actually enjoy observing them. I think we humans could learn a lot from them.
But I know that they can be very mischeivous too :D

Answer: The squirrel proof bird feeder. Have a look at the video on their site, it's funny. :DJD Spydo wrote:... The link to that bird feeder video was hilarious! :D
I saw that Discovery Channel thing a couple of years ago too. I loved the "advanced" maze they set-up for the squirrels to go through to get the seed.

"Somebody should do something"?? It's a sad indicator of just how pathetic and worthless the average American has become when a FRIGGIN' SQUIRREL manages to conquer a park in a rodent reign of terror! "EEK, it's a SQUIRREL! Somebody DO something!!" .
We shoot them and eat them down here, which may explain why they're more afraid of us than we are of them...

I see a trend here...Raccoons kill 10 cats in US
August 23, 2006
A fierce group of raccoons has killed 10 cats, attacked a small dog and bitten at least one pet owner who had to get rabies shots, residents of Olympia say.
Some have taken to carrying pepper spray to ward off the masked marauders and the woman who was bitten now carries an iron pipe when she goes outside at night.
"It's a new breed," said Tamara Keeton, who with Kari Hall started a raccoon watch after an emotional neighbourhood meeting drew 40 people. "They're urban raccoons, and they're not afraid."
Tony Benjamins, whose family lost two cats, said he got a big dog - a German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix - to keep the raccoons away.
One goal of the patrol is to get residents to stop feeding raccoons and to keep pets and pet food indoors.
Lisann Rolle said she began carrying an iron pipe when she goes outside at night after being bitten by raccoons when she tried to pull three of them off her cat Lucy. She obtained rabies shots afterward as a precaution.
"I was watching her like a hawk, but she snuck out," Rolle said. "Then I heard this hideous sound - a coyote-type high pitch ... It was vicious. They were focused on ripping her apart."
The attacks have been especially shocking because raccoons came within 1.5 metres of cats without any problem in previous years, Benjamins said.
"We used to love the raccoons. They'd have their babies this time of year, and they were so cute. Even though we lived in the city, it was neat to have wildlife around," he said, "but this year, things changed. They went nuts."
In one case five raccoons tried to carry off a small dog, which managed to survive.
The attacks, all within a three-block area near the Garfield Nature Trail in Olympia, are highly unusual, said Sean O. Carrell, a problem wildlife coordinator with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, adding that trappers may be summoned from the US Department of Agriculture to remove problem animals.
"I've never heard a report of 10 cats being killed. It's something were going to have to monitor," Carrell said.
Meanwhile, residents have hired Tom Brown, a nuisance wildlife control operator from Rochester, Washington, to set traps, but in six weeks he has caught only one raccoon. He and Carrell said raccoons teach their young - and each other - to avoid traps.
Brown said he had seen packs of raccoons this big but none so into killing.
"They are in command up there," he said.
