So, you bought a Mule Team? Congrats! Are you looking for a little inspiration to personalize it? Are you interested in testing the steel and comparing it against another? Or have you already personalized and tested multiple Mules, and you want to share...
I have seen 3D prints where the print is stopped and something added then the print continues, capturing the object. Being that the dimensions are a known thing, couldn’t you print a one piece handle? The break would happen after all the hole voids were...
So I got my first mule team ever in Magnamax and immediately knew I had to see what she could do..I had a pile of misc cardboard boxes in the garage (some double some single corregated, some with tape some had adhesive some completely bone dry) so I cut...
Well the title says it all. Was playing around today with my mules and I figured out if I should try to use magnets instead of the standard fixings - barrel and screws. The original fixings works as they should. The problem is on my side. As someone...
Curious if anyone here has used the scales produced by Chroma on their Mule? I like some of their designs and colors, and the price seems fair for an additive-manufactured product.
On the MagnaMax testing front. I'll be using it just as I did the...
My FedEx guy just dropped off my MT46P and I couldn't be more excited to stay playing with it! A G10 scale kit and boltaron sheath showed up yesterday so I've got a complete setup to work with. Before we get into it, I want to give a caveat - this is my...
Can't leave well enough alone so I took it straight out of the box and batonned it into a log 🤣
Well actually first things first, the nub gets neutered and the edges of the handle get beveled and then on go the Hapstone scales. I also blended in that...
I'm in the process of putting a handle on my Z-max mule (I'm a bit behind) and was wondering why z-max hasn't been around much. Then I saw Cedric's post on zapp z12 Ultra. Sal, any chance of a taste this stuff? It sounds right up Spyderco's alley.
This was posted over on Blade Forums, but I thought it might be worth cross posting here too.
A new vendor is making MT scales and sheaths, and they're pretty sweet. I don't know if I can mention them here or not, but the company name is StonerCNC. I...
I know much of the Mule Team program was designed towards knife steel discovery and testing. Along with the great discussions we have here about steel qualities, sharpening, and handle/sheath making, I thought a thread with a user-oriented tone could...
Was thinking it’s possible to make a swappable butterfly knife with interchangeable modded mule blades. Just need a few tools and some good diamond drill bits.
What about rare earth magnets glued in the scales instead of using screws to clamp the scales on the knife where the holes are. This way you could have one scale set for all the mules, minus the ceramic one but that could be a special dedicated one. This...
About a year ago a friend on this forum sent me some compost scales to try from G.L. Hansen. I have always used stabilized wood so this was a first time for me.

I won’t go into the total build but highlight the two main lessons I...
I’m excited about the new steel, so I decided to pick one of these up. Not without making my own changes. Reground to about .008” behind the edge, no finger guard, smaller ricasso, different handle shape, hidden pin/partial tang.
Yesterday I received notification that Boltaron sheaths were again available. Last night I put one in the cart, but didn't have my credit card handy. I went to pay this morning, but it was too late. Sold out.
This is a tough question and I'd like for you to share your thoughts. If we make too man, they sit for months, which was not part of the original plan. We used to make 500 pcs . Now we're making close to 2,000 and now we're adding teeth to some of the...
I was a little surprised not to see an actual performance thread rather other than sharpening and first impressions. Hopefully this thread will begin receiving some additional feedback (or linked to the current running performance thread that I am unaware...
Are the Mule Team G-10 scale kits only produced in limited quantities when an MT release hits the shelves? Seeing that there are MT releases still available, such as AEB-L, should we expect them to come back in stock soon or are we SOL for a while?
Just was curious to see how many put lock tite on the torx screws when mounting the handle to a mule knife. I do not, but seeing the picture at the top of the mule page on Spyderco website had me thinking.
And the red and black packing material is a great classy touch! Can't wait to start putting it to use. Oh and my dressed up Mantra in pocket to open it up.
Thanks Spyderco and FedEx, I had no idea it might arrive today. But I'm very pleased, of course. Time to go paw through the neighbor's recycling cans for cardboard.
Well the curiosity about theseMT40 HIC Mules in particular has been eating away at me all I could bare lol. I just ordered one of these to check this all out myself.
Got one of the cool perfect fit G10 scale assembly for it as well. I am so old school...
Now that the SPY27 Mule is landing in mailboxes (and has already been in the hands of some lucky SFO-adjacent folks for a few days) it seems like a good time to set up a thread separate from the reveal and release date announcement ones....
After watching Shawn Houston’s video on edge stability, it got me thinking if there could be a possibility of a high hardness 52100 Mule like the 66 HRC example featured in his video.
Very impressed with its capabilities at such low geometry.
Looks like we’re jumping from MT-41 (VG XEOS) to MT-46 (Magnamax). Anybody know what the intervening mules will be? Is one of them 19C27? Vandyman wonders if Damasteel is one of them?
