Wow, I haven't been around here in a long time.

Anyway, this thread is dead on it for me. I happen to be at the beach with my family this week and I brought a folder in H1 with me. I've had it a couple years and it's not really been carried at all. This week, however, it has spent hours in the ...

I've been wondering about this one too. I look forward to it coming online. I think it may be more than an Urban Ledgend....it'll be ledgendary!

I don't have a Military (and have never handled one) because I've always thought they would be too big for me. I'm thinking more and more about one....

In cedjunior photo it looks like the choil has jimping...is that just on the CF BG-42 model?

Thanks,
:)

Boy, I've looked and looked at the Police but have never bought one. It still haunts me a bit. I'm like some of you....a different handle material would be nice. Although I seem to be picking up more SS handles, I don't care for them that much. It seems that many of the knives I want only come in SS ...

Steve,

You've gotten quite a workout on this thread. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Sometimes when I read about the projects you're working on it makes me want to tear a knife apart and try some type of mod. I know there is a book about working on folders (can't remember the title)-- do you ...

No, I'm not a lawyer. I was just wondering if STR had spent more time with the CIII and had changed his thoughts on the design.

STR, if my post sounded like "cross examination," please forgive me. I value your opinion and wanted your input--otherwise I would not have asked.

Now, bell, let me look ...

Thanks, STR. Your answer makes good sense and your point about old posts being taken with a grain of salt is a good one too. Progress makes things relative-- I guess.

I also think the point of a folding knife being a system is good to think about. The only concern I ever had with the CIII is that ...

It's a great knife. The only thing that bothers me is that I only bought 1 of them...I think they are hard to find now. I wish I had a couple more.

If you are in the market for a small knife, this is a great one.

STR...Why did you change your mind??

STR is a wealth of valuable information concerning folding knives. I always read his posts carefully and feel like I know more about knives after reading them. I have great respect for him.

Awhile back I sent a PM to him asking about the pivot strength of the Caly 3 and his reply was:

The locks ...

I would love to see this happen. As you know, the Razel comes in a variety of sizes. The utility razel has a 3" blade, the stubby has approx 2.25" blade and the others have larger sizes. I would love to see the 3" and 2.25" made into a folder. I'm perfectly fine with a frame lock.

I really think the general dislike of liner locks is unjustified. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just plain like them. The liner lock on my Captain is as solid as they come. I don't have a Millie, but I hear great things about them.

The thing that confuses me is that folks will knock liner locks and ...

The Para is one of my favorites too (along with the Captain and Caly 3). IMO, it is a much better EDC than the mini-Manix. The mini is so wide that it is tough to carry in the pocket.

I'm excited to see what the new Para will be like....you know we will all have to get one -- if for no other ...

Although I'm no fan of FRN, I have had knives over the years with FRN handles and have NEVER had a problem. I think it is a material you can trust in most situations. As for me, SS is okay but I like G10.

Yes sir...you should get a Captain. It is one of my favorite :spyder: s. It is not too easy to close, but it's not too hard either. IMHO, it is built very strong and I have great confidence in the Captain. I do, however, like liner locks ... at least on knives from makers that care about doing ...

gk911,

You make a good point about using the most efficient tools possible. Hopefully, you will have your stihl if you need to cut wood. In many hard situations you will have modern tools. When I hike I don't make a pratice of carrying my chainsaw....but I do carry a folding saw. It is silly, imho ...

There seems there is a fairly strong consensus on the Manix and Chinook being among the strongest from a pure lock strength stand point.
