Re: China
I respect that Spyderco makes knives all over the globe. It allows them to have far more SKU’s going without seemingly the fear that something will shift and they will risk shuttering the company.

Re: Native 5 - Back Lock Quality Issues
Not to dog pile the OP, but this is a problem a bit of mineral oil (or water) and pivot working can likely fix.
I’d plug in a TV show or movie and fondle the new toy for a bit. If the action is stiff, tweak the pivot a bit and keep going.

The issue is G10 or any abrasive ply-peel type material. Most of my favorite Spydies are FRN or smooth and the G10’s see less carry time.
I guess there is a market for a sewn-in pocket mod. Maybe like a 1” section of stitched vinyl?

Re: Knife as emergency can opener?
If I had to open a can and it was an emergency I’d use one of my cheaper knives, or anything necessary.
I’m trying to figure out the bleak future timeline where emergency can opening is a thing. I pray it never comes to that.
Opening a can would be the least of our worries. :rofl
Haha ...
Re: The Big C
I’m so very sorry. I have no advice on the topic other than being your own fierce advocate and seeking out specialists even if it means traveling.
I will keep you at the top of the mind and prayer list, friend.
There are very smart people here and elsewhere.

Canada is also one of the few countries that doesn’t make a car. They are landlocked with the USA and Mexico, with ports to all other major countries.
That one boggles my mind. Plus a chrome maple leaf badge would look really cool :).

Re: China
The best way to avoid partisan politics is to value tools with the story behind the maker and the quality of the resulting product. These days I don’t even fixate on blade steels.
I understand makers don’t all want to be in the spotlight but knowing their stories might help humanize the products ...

Re: Any clip points in the works?
Thanks all! That PM2 looks pretty nice. Not sure I’m sold on the fuller.
I have a few trailing points (Rhino, Lil Temp, Persian G10). Shape wise I was thinking more the Renegade/Blackhawk; straight spine except the last 1.5” or so. A bit like the Buck 110.

Any clip points in the works?
I’ve been off the forums a while. Are there any traditional clip points planned for the future? Like the Blackhawk or Renegade, maybe a sprint of a Native or PM?

I think Spyderco should release a mystery Mule and let people speculate before they release its identity.

Re: Favorite fidgety locking system?
I’m voting for the ball bearing lock but only because the uncaged version turns me into a raccoon. It’s often not even very fluid in function…but round and shiny…

Re: 8Cr Alternative
The alternative to low carbon and low carbide steels is quality serrations to those steels.
I’ve never had issues with the Tenacious while some Byrd’s were clunky/gritty (it was expected without the round hole). I hope the new serrated Gooney is different though as it looks like a weird and ...

Re: Easiest Sharpening Spyderco Steel
Unless severely blunted h1/h2 is very easy. I like serrations as they tend to spruce up quicker to a functional level. It would probably by my steel and edge pick for a beater tool.
VG10 isn’t bad nor is m4. Superblue is very easy. I expect Cruwear is a dream to sharpen but only have a serrated ...

Re: Is a gun lube - protector spray like Gibbs good on Spyderco's
I have some Frog Lube which is ok and smells great. I’d probably lean to mineral oil as a wipe down.
Unless you really need corrosion protection my issue is the smell with the more caustic chemical. I haven’t used Gibbs so IMHO it comes down to the protection needed for the side affects you get.

Re: A YEAR ?????????
I stopped doing preorders after locking money away and seeing other dealers get the thing I wanted. At that point you just hope your place gets enough stock to supply orders before the other vendors run out of knives.
IMHO, get your money back and sign up for a few wish lists.
