Any clip points in the works?

#1

Post by Blerv »

I’ve been off the forums a while. Are there any traditional clip points planned for the future? Like the Blackhawk or Renegade, maybe a sprint of a Native or PM?

I know for all intents and purposes a Spydie narrow leaf accomplishes a similar goal without being as intimidating…but the youthful side of me thinks clips are just cool, lol.

Thanks :)

Welcome back!

Traditional clip point?

I went to KnifeCenter and used their Find It Fast interface. Almost all of the Spyderco knives fit into the category of clip point, but I know what you are looking for.

Maybe the Spyderco Edgerati, Dragonfly, Subway Bowie, or Watu?

I hate to say it, but none of those suggestions are clip points. Drop points maybe, but not clip points. The defining feature of a clip point is a distinct break in the line of the spine. The original Chinook, Blackhawk and Renegade are examples of clip point blades.

Thanks all! That PM2 looks pretty nice. Not sure I’m sold on the fuller.

I have a few trailing points (Rhino, Lil Temp, Persian G10). Shape wise I was thinking more the Renegade/Blackhawk; straight spine except the last 1.5” or so. A bit like the Buck 110.

I picked up a CJRB Pyrite Bowie which has a nice shape. It’s no Spydie though.

Thank you!

I will take a look at the models suggested to get a better idea.

I hope Spyderco brings back the Blackhawk in a decent steel with a 4 inch blade. Nice knife.

I dream of a folding variant of the Respect designed by Sal with a 3.5-3.75 full flat blade and just a tiny sharpening choil. Same 154CM steel and a stag or bone handle. THAT would be my dream Spyderco. Something similar to the knife used by Anthony Hopkins in the movie The Edge, designed by the talented but departed Brian Lyttle. I really hope Sal reads this and consider the idea.
