I've used Fireclean and Breakfree. Some people swear by Froglube.

You don't have to deal with carbon fouling. You just need to resist rust and keep things wetish. Just about any oil that's not super toxic will be OK.

I use frog lube to coat a non stainless steel blade if I don’t expect to use it for a while. Geiselle purple go juice is my go to for lubing pivots. Without much braking in, it makes my compression locks drop free and does a pretty good job of getting rid of any initial lock stick.

I use Hoppe's Elite for cleaning my knives. Especially when I buy a used knife. It works really well, along with a brass bristle brush, to get old grease and oil off, and it cleans up minor corrosion very well too. I like it because it's virtually odorless. It works good on gunked up G10 or FRN handle scales too.

For lubricating, I use 3-in-1 oil (that's the brand name)

Sure, Gibbs is fine. So is any other general purpose lubricant that you might use on guns or other small mechanisms. We're working on knives, not Swiss watches. As long as you don't get absurd with grease, heavy motor oil, or vegetable oil from the kitchen, you'll do great.

Yeah, most gun lubes are the right type of thing for knife pivots as well. Personally I like to use things that are less chemically on knives than what I might use on some guns, so I like to go with something like Ballistol or even just mineral oil has been fine.

My favorite products for my knives are Rem Oil spray, Boeing T-9 Boeshield, and Corrosion-X. I'm also happy to use WD-40 if that's what is available.

Ballistol. It's food safe in case you cut something to eat. It works great.

I have some Frog Lube which is ok and smells great. I’d probably lean to mineral oil as a wipe down.

Unless you really need corrosion protection my issue is the smell with the more caustic chemical. I haven’t used Gibbs so IMHO it comes down to the protection needed for the side affects you get.
