Add me to the long list of Dragonfly lovers. It's about as near a perfect knife as it gets. I can't wait for the G10.

Actually, the only contender for my affection is the Byrd Robin, which is practically identical in size and shape but a little more hefty, with jimping, and to me feels more ...

I just bought a new Lava but knew that I wasn't going to EDC it with the SS handle. It's just a great looking, beautifully built knife that I wanted in my collection. If any other handle material -- FRN, G10, or whatever, and I would buy another to possibly EDC. I hate putting a nice SS knife in my ...

KaliGman:

Do you think the Lava is the best of the Spydercos for use in the closed configuration? I'm asking about the size, hand fit, ease of opening, and impact potential.

The Byrd Robin is a great knife and a great value. I have both the SS and the FRN. I prefer the FRN for daily carry. The SS was a little too heavy for my taste, so I use it at my desk. I hate it that the SS gets scratched so easily.

I would second the pocket lint suggestion but you have a brand new knife. However, check for foreign matter in the lock. In my experience, even a very small, almost invisible, piece of lint or other matter will cause a no-lock condition.

Wow. These knives are beautiful. Being relatively new to Spyderco and the forum, I had never heard of the WTC edition. Can you tell a little about them. When did they come out? How many were made? How did you get them? Did all come in the nice wooden box? What did they cost? Was there only one ...

The dreaded pocket lint stikes again

The lockback on my almost new Native FRN started going south a few days ago and finally today began failing consistently. :(

After checking it over and finding nothing obviously wrong, I began to plan a warranty repair trip for it. But taking one more closer look with glasses and a flashlight, I ...

I would be interested to know what differences you've found in quality between the Byrd and genuine Spydies. Between the Robin and D'fly, I've found none.

Yeah, I agree. I see some crazy bids. In many cases these are not rare collectible knives but the same knives you can buy at eBay "Buy it Now" prices for considerably less money.

I have both and they are amazingly similar. I like them both and frequently swap for EDC. I think the Robin is a great bargain when you consider that there is such little difference.

Do Your Knives Scare People?

I'm a long-time knife user, but more recently dedicated to Spyderco, mostly smaller varieties (Dragonfly, Robin, Cricket, ..). However, I recently bought a Walmart Native FRN, my largest yet, and pulled it out one night at a wine tasting to cut foil off a new bottle. The reaction from people of both ...

I'll have to chime in and say that I too agree. I bought a Byrd Robin, fully expecting something noticably inferior to the Dragonfly I had purchased a few days before -- and was I surprised. I can't tell any difference in quality and workmanship. I, too, will buying more Byrds.

Strangely, it does fit in the box in the closed position, with a lot of space left over. However, it wouldn't have nearly the WOW factor when you first open the box.

Congrats on a good choice, the Poliwog.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago on eBay and love it. It's a beautiful piece of design and mechanics, especially the spline swedge, handle cutouts, and ball lock. Very elegant. I enjoy looking at it and marveling at it. I probably won't EDC it because it's ...

BLADE Show and new Spydercos?

Does Sal and team usually use the BLADE show to introduce new products? I have a chance to go and would be happy to see new Spydercos there.
