My Ever Changing Views

#1

Post by Jeff2112 »

Since I was here about 3 yrs ago I've changed my mind on a couple of things. I use to be strictly a clip up guy. Well on :spyder: cos I prefer clip down unless it's waved. I prefer to use the :spyder: drop technic, although some don't take to it well, like the macarta Calypso Jr. Not long ago I pruchased a 30V Native, and New Years while opening some stubborn wind I rolled the edge. I'm no longer sure where to place this steel, compared to the other supper steels. I had a hard time getting that edge staightened out. It was some what worse then sharpening dull D2! I did get it back to factory sharp something I usually surpass! I still like this steel but when I get a knife with it, I dull it then restore it to my prefered edge. Lesson learned! Since I got a SS Jester I'm warming up to SS knives, which before I didn't like. I still prefer G-10/macarta and FRN to SS though. A friend of mine has a saying it's all good! We're all just different on what we like. I'm just trying to catch up here with old friends!

I think I have a rough understanding of what he was saying.... maybe.

I'm also lost here.

Wonder if he was drunk while posting or speaks a different language or something?

Not long ago I pruchased a 30V Wallyworld Native, and New Years while opening some stubern wind I rolled the edge. I no longer no where to place this steel. I had a heck of a time getting that edge staightened out. It was worse then sharpening really dull D2! I did get it back to factory sharp something I usually surpass! I still like this steel but when I get a knife with it, I dull it real fast, and restore it to my prefered edge. Lesson learned! I was here a while back and I find that I've changed my opinions on a lot of things. I used to be a strictly tip up guy, but now I find that I prefer tip down on Spydercos, with the exception of waved knives. I prefer to Spyderdrop my knives, but not all knives are easy to Spyderdrop, like the Micarta Caly Jr.

Not long ago I picked up a Walmart Native, but rolled the edge opening some stubborn wine on New Years. not sure how I'd rate this steel, relative to others. It's definitely worse than sharpening dull D-2. I managed to get it back to the factory edge, but that's usually something I can surpass. I still like it, but now when I get a knife with this steel, I dull it really quickly, than reprofile it to the edge geometry I prefer. Works for me. Since I got a SS Jester, I'm starting to like SS handles more, and I used to hate them. I still prefer G-10 and Micarta, but SS is still good. Sal once said, they're all good, just different.

Better? ;)

smcfalls13,
How long did it take you to crack the code? I think the CIA may have a spot open for you. :D

Not that long. I have a friend from back in high school that will randomly send me text messages when he's out at the bar, and deciphering those kind of intoxicated messages takes practice ;)

I wonder what the CIA would pay me :p

Reminds me of the last superbowl. Just before halftime, I was a little tipsy, and visiting the boys room after partaking in several(6-8) of the neighbors beers, I called one of my poker buddies and proceeded to(jokingly) ***** him out for answering the phone during the game.

I think that last sentence about the Jester just comes out of nowhere and derails the whole steel train of thought.

Hi Jeff,

I think we all do that. We learn more, we evolve, we learn more, etc.

I have certainly changed many of my opinions about knives and knife design since I began, first as a hobby, and then as a professional.
