BLADE Show and new Spydercos?
Does Sal and team usually use the BLADE show to introduce new products? I have a chance to go and would be happy to see new Spydercos there.

As I understand it, Spyderco utilizes knife shows as a test bed of reaction for potential future models; as well as a feature of confirmed "yet to be released" models.ahearn wrote:Does Sal and team usually use the BLADE show to introduce new products? Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.
BLADE show format
I've been to the past 7 BLADE shows and it seems like a mixed bag of tricks each time. But yes they usually do have some new models to display. They also have several of their other items like sharpening tools and so forth. They are always very friendly to answer all of your questions.
They also have information sheets which tell you of sprint runs on the horizon and their latest catalogs. Sal & Eric & Gail are all usually there during most of the show. At least that's been the case in the past.
One setback that has always perplexed me is that they don't sell any of their merchandise at the show
. I suppose it is because they don't want to interfere with their dealers.

Sal will be at Blade Show with a few new cards in his hand- protos and Concept models not previously seen. Knife designs we know we're going to manufacture and those designs that are scheduled into future production, we call Prototypes. Concept Knives are the models he'll show to gain feedback and opinion. They are knives we've not committed to making in the next 6 months, or may never make, but want your 2 cents on.
There are some cards you won't see. Mystery does make things exciting!

Exactly. We don't wish to compete against our own dealers for sales. Since we're the manufacturer we'd prefer to come, exibit and have time to talk to visitors and friends rather than sell.

Jeff,
Sorry to hear we won't see you this year but moving into a new home is pretty exciting stuff. Congrats!
We still have a couple VIP Passes left if you are attending and would like to have a couple extra bucks in your pocket to shop. Email your postal address and they're yours.

I haven't made it to one of these shows yet but intend to in the future. I have seen several Spyderco knives on ebay that were said to of been purchased at the blade show, so my question is do they just sell some of the rare ones they have held back or is it just luck of the draw on what you may find they are selling?

I'm pretty sure Spyderco doesn't sell any knives at the Blade Show so they can focus on product demonstrations and not competing with their distributors.

Spyderco does not sell any knives at their booth. They are there to show their products & talk to the distributors, makers, and users.SteelDragon wrote:I haven't made it to one of these shows yet but intend to in the future. However there are several distributors set up at the BLADE show that are selling Spyderco knives.
