For folding knives, I've been dressed up ever since leaving college, though I shed the tie a few years into my Ph.D. Somehow teaching high school locked me into professionally dressed habits.

It's pretty darn stainless compared to some things. I recall D2 being referred to as a "semi stainless" years ago and now certain YouTube folks say that about 8Cr13Mov. :confused: It's like H1 compared to old carbon steel from day of yore.

I agree with the statement that ZDP is something like S90V. (I have an S90V Mule and gave my dad a ZDP Stretch a few years back). Both hold an edge insanely long and stand up very well to abrasive media like cardboard. Their wear resistance make both hard to sharpen, nothing like VG-10 for example ...

I just got back from a work trip to Lake Tahoe. Given that it's legal there, I carried my beloved Caly 3 like it was going out of style. :cool:

The (now discontinued VG-10/G-10) Caly 3 was my first Spydie. The Caly 3, to me, is a gorgeous and faultless knife, and I frankly haven't seen a folder in its size range that I like better.

Get a set of diamond sharpening tools (I have four of the DMT Dia-Sharp grits), potentially a loupe to inspect the progress and angle of your sharpening work, and sharpening will be straightforward even for the exotic steels.

Do understand that bevels need not be exactly at a certain spec (or be exactly equal to one another) to cut well. In fact, there are chisel grind knives that are completely flat on one side.

I've never wanted a knife with an edge angle of 10 degrees inclusive. Please let me know what a 10 degree inclusive edge would be used for. I know it will go through tires quick but for how long? Just a thought I've been having. I know I need a hobby.
