Not really. "Slicing" (More specifically push cutting as well) is all I do with my knives. I don't pry with them, so that extra steel is not only useless for my application of the knife, but it makes the performance of the knife significantly worse for the uses I have for it.

I would estimate the Phoenix exerts 20%-30% more closure pressure when closed than my D'Allara (my Dodos are a bit more "loose" than my D'Allara).

I have NO concern of it opening on it's own, but when I DO open it.... BUTTER!

My D´Allara and Dodo have lax detents, which seems to be there only weak point. I´m not keen on an opening Spydiblade in my pocket. :D

The price for the Phoenix ...

German prices for the Phoenix are between 390 $ and at least 453 $. Plus it is basically illegal to carry it in Germany. With a small functionless Spyderhole it most probably wouldn´t be. ;) Apart from this it´s an appealing design.

By the way, is there an improvement in the detent?

I just took a class with him (mind-blowing!) and he was sporting a blue Yojimbo and 2 CE D4's FYI. The CE performed most impressively against the vicious "pork man" aggressor :D Went clean through 8 layers of drop cloth, 25 layers cling wrap, ~2" pork and twine with a moderate slash.

JD Spydo, very well said! Except IIRC Michael Janich once wrote, he likes to start cuts with serrations and pull through with the plain part of the blade, what would make CE blades his favorits. I´m not sure about that though. Nevertheless I just bought his awesome Blackhawk Kalista in PE. :cool ...
