Re: How Do Your Factory Seconds Look?

Received my Military and Maxamet PM2. The PM2 looked good, but did not examine it closely as it's a Christmas present to be opened later. Military looks good in almost every way. Only noticeable concerns are that the blade is slightly off-center and it appears to have been sharpened at around 40 inc...

Re: How Do Your Factory Seconds Look?

Interesting that the Militaries are not newer CQI variants. I thought they implemented that change several years ago.

Re: How Do Your Factory Seconds Look?

Just got the first of 3 orders. Looking very good so far. The only imperfection I can see is some mild damage to the presentation side scale presumably from the press fitting of the lanyard tube. Other than that, centering is nice, lockup is solid, blade looks clean, grind is even. Can't beat that f...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

Finally able to proceed through the checkout process and get a few items. Definitely challenging, but not nearly as much as trying to coordinate travel to Golden for the in person event. Thanks Spyderco crew!

Doesn't the standard production blue FRN delica 4 qualify as smurf blue???

CG
This was my guess as to why they did the dark blue.

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

Just ordered mine. $14.99 shipping hurts a little, but overall $123.94 doesn't seem bad for an M390 blade. Delica is my favorite knife, and I never thought I would see one in this steel. It's worth it to me.

Guys, shiny footprints.

Can we focus on the M390 Delica rather than BBS's business model?

Re: CPM Rex 45

The thread linked previously has a lot of useful info.

This steel is a pain to sharpen on basic AlOx stones, though I was still able to still get a decent edge. It touches up on the Sharpmaker very nicely though.

Re: Help needed in steel choice: PM2 CruWear vs Rex 45 vs Maxamet

That's hard, because Cruwear and REX45 are my two favorites. Can you get two instead of 3? :)

I've found Cruwear a little easier to get a fine edge on than REX, but REX is better at holding a fine edge. So if you're looking for retention I'd say REX.

Re: CPM REX 45 | Edge Performance

Following up on my previous post. I took my REX45 PM2 to the 400 grit stock EP stone last night, and I was having to refresh the surface of the stone even more frequently than with the 220. I noticed it would stop cutting before the stone was even loaded up. I think this was due to glazing over rat...

Re: CPM REX 45 | Edge Performance

I've been working on reprofiling my PM2 in REX45 using the Edge Pro over the past few days. (I only like to sharpen for < 1 hour at a time to prevent fatigue.) I really like how this steel touches up on the Sharpmaker, and I was able to do that for a while to maintain sharpness. But it was time to ...

Re: Lets talk stropping

I used to strop with green buffing compound on leather. I also experimented with diamond paste on wood and cardboard. I find stropped edges lose some slicing aggression and overall crispness compared to finishing off a stone. I've compared edges finished fresh off a stone, edges finished off a ston...

Re: What's your trick to remove a wire edge?

I read that article and found it very interesting and informative. Everything you're saying here makes sense, as I have never been able to remove the burr 100% using just the stones. I always have to go to a strop to finish. However, how do you explain guys like Jim Ankerson sharpening to only 400 ...

Re: What's your trick to remove a wire edge?

I believe in that other thread I posted a book on removing the burr that was written by a gentleman who used rigorous scientific research and an electron scanning microscope to determine what works best to remove a burr (http://knifegrinders.com.au/Manuals/Kni ... g_book.pdf). His findings indicate...

Re: Bevel Angle/Finish for Rex 45 PM2?

I kept the factory angle but ground a fresh bevel using the Spyderco diamond rods for the Sharpmaker, then finished with the medium ceramics. That produced a killer edge. I'm looking forward to taking it to my Edge Pro soon and see how it does off the 220 or 400 grit stone. This steel is hard enough...
