Atlantic Salt handle would be a no-go for me since it adds a choil.
Absence of the choil is one of my favorites features of the Endela.

Endela inspired Salt
We have the Delica inspired Salt.
We have the Endura inspired Pacific Salt.
Will we ever see an Endela inspired version in the Salt series??

Re: Wharncliffe Delica interest
If you're okay with the next bigger size, KSF has the K390 Endela wharnie in stock.

Re: Wharncliffe Delica interest
Delica wharncliffe is my favorite Spyderco. I have 4 of the K390 variant. 2 users and 2 backups. Shame it never really caught on.
Would love to see it in some of the newer steels like PD#1, SPY27, etc.

I would take a Milly 1 sprint in just about any variation, but sad to say I think those days have passed.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2
Put my own (bit thinner than factory) edge on this: The new all black ffg Police. It's a 300 grit edge done with the HF diamond, and deburred on a well worn 325 dmt coarse. The burr seemed a little stubborn, but it's only the first sharpening; and included a re-profile at that, so I'll see how it ...

Re: One month with the CPM-REX121 Sage 5
The edge that came on my REX121 Sage was probably the worst I've gotten from Spyderco. Couldn't even scrape shave. I guess that's somewhat understandable, albeit disappointing, given how difficult the steel is to work with.

Re: Is k390 overrated?
Hans, your experience sounds a lot more similar to mine than OP's.
Me and Sal both took Police 4's to about 10 degrees per side without issue on common EDC tasks. I ran a 15dps microbevel, not sure about him.
My typical sharpening method for K390 was to establish a 10dps 300 grit bevel that was ...

Re: What is your all time favorite steel?
For just under $100, you can try some Rex45 right now if you like! Granted it is coated.
Yes, although Italian production introduces a third confounding factory for this steel 😅
I have a HAP40 Delica and REX45 Military. The Military holds an edge longer and feels glassier on the stones ...

Re: What is your all time favorite steel?
About the large number of Rex45 mentions vs only one for Hap40 - does that reflect a noticeable difference in performance, or just the popularity of Golden vs Seki models?
I've used a Hap40 Delica for a while now and for me it acts a lot like Cruwear with a little less corrosion resistance. But ...

Re: What is your all time favorite steel?
K390 for its unique combination of extreme edge holding + ease of sharpening.
I'm always amazed at how much I can cut with it, then just a few swipes on the Sharpmaker brings it back to hair popping.

Re: Is k390 overrated?
nope.
I got a k390 police to hold a shaving sharp edge for over a month of edc using a 300 grit edge.
I used the same knife for half a year without any touch-ups and cutting performance remained high.
I typically touch-up a knife after 2-3 weeks of edc for comparison.
Gotta figure out what ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2
Dropped the angle on my Manix Salt. No clue what the exact angle is since it's freehand, but probably 12-13dps.
-400gr vitrified to set the edge

Re: Hourglass clip coatings
Is titanium just a visual preference, or is there some performance advantage? It never even occured to me to consider why titanium clips are made until now.
My Endura obviously has the easily worn coating typical of Seki knives. I am kind of wondering if I might like the coating stripped, but I ...

I'd buy any variant, but it seems unlikely as the wharnies generally do not sell very well it seems.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2
At the recommendation of vivi , I dropped my VG-10 Delica wharny down the lowest setting on my Edge Pro, which is around 10-11dps.
One of the widest (and ugliest?) bevels I've seen. Hopefully the performance is worth it.

Re: Calling all sharpening experts
I am no expert, but I will parrot what Larrin says, Edge Geometry has a huge impact on edge retention.
It may be a of work but if you bring down your factory edge of 17dps to under 14dps you will notice a large improvement in edge retention regardless of steel.
Obviously, this is only one part ...

Calling all sharpening experts
This is a bit of a spin-off from the Community Sharpening Journal thread. There was some discussion there a while back regarding fine edge retention, i.e. longevity of a shaving sharp edge, but nothing really conclusive. I've seen this discussed other places as well, and there are generally two ...
