Military 1 in SPY27 ?

Post by MyelinSheath&Borborygmi »

I wonder if it may happen in a future, or there will be no more variants of this iconic model?

I think now they watch if Military 2 cause drop in sales of Military, which is an option for people who don't like CL or tip up carry. I don't know many of them.

I still like the OG Military better than the Military 2, but I'm resigned to never seeing a new variation. I wish I had had the opportunity to grab some of the more exotic ones!

That said, I enjoy the Military 2 too. The Salt might be my most-carried knife.

I figure the St. Nick's Deadpool Military was the last bit of love the original would get. Pity, since I'm one of those mythical beasts for whom the Compression lock is a deal-breaker and tip down is the way to carry. I still don't own a Military2 and I don't plan to.

I think it will be the latter...

Discussed a lot already, but to me it is pretty clear that the stage is set for the Millie 2 to succeed (and that many obviously just genuinly prefer it over the "1").

- They have streamlined the production process for the "2" but not the "1", the "2" can be had for less money
- The "2" is often advertised as an evolution like in definite improvement, not as one of two alternatives with their distinct pros and cons,. Higher numbers with Spyderco also somewhat suggest just that and that the "lower numbers" will eventually fade out (Pac Salt.. Endura... Manix... and many more)
- The myth that a linerlock would generally and objectively be "inferior" to a comp.lock is also pretty persisting - while in fact it is really about what specific pros and cons are important to a certain person concerning safety, ergos, usability in certain environments and so on.

Anyway and that said: I think for Spyderco it definitely was a wise move to make the Millie 2 and emphasize it over the "1", no doubt! They gave to it what not all, but many folks obviously just like to see and have and among those folks definitely are a lot of experienced knife users.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

I just want liner lock Millies, would definitely welcome a Spy27 / CW addition to my S110V and S90V models for a bit more toughness and better sharpenability.
I mean one is none and two is still only one, is it not :-)

I always hold hope for another Millie 1 variant. It certainly would have made for a wonderful 50th anniversary knife with a Spyderco inlay or something similar like the forum one they did in the year 2000 (I’m not talking about the more recent forum PM2). Here’s a link to a pic of it on the Deacon’s website:

In the unlikely case of an OG Millie sprint, I'll make a bit of extra room in here

I certainly hope we get more military 1s. I also prefer it to the 2. It’s one of my favorite models. I’m not holding out hope but a salt one would be amazing. Id welcome any new steel though. Not interested in 110v

I also prefer the M1 over the M2. An M1 all-black Salt would be fantastic!

I would also like to see a Military 3 with a button comp lock like on the Sage 6. It's an easy system to use, and seems so intuitive to me. The Sage 6 is one of my favorite knives to carry, partly because of the button comp lock.

Much prefer the OG Millie but would be surprised if we see it resurrected for sprints, etc.

I'm just waiting til it makes the discontinued list, at which time I'll be stocking up on extras.

I just got a Millie 2, and what a great knife. I would be interested in a SPY27 OG Millie.
