Kristi or Sal,
There's an organization here in the San Francisco Bay Area called The Marine Mammal Center. Last December, they were involved in the disentaglement of a Humpback Whale just off of the coast and were successful in freeing it from a mass of crab pot lines. I'm sure the specialized blade ...

Drop point D'Allara release date?
Recently, Sal mentioned that a drop point D'Allara is in the pipeline. Just wondering when it'll be hitting the shelves. With the other revisions to the D'Allara (slimmer scales, more accessible ball lock), I think it could become my new favorite (or, at least equally favorite) work knife (currently ...

Byrd for newb?
Since I seem to be our department's designated gadget nut, one of my new co-workers was sent to me asking about knives and where to get one. She's not a knife knut, probably never will be, and I think even $40+ would be out of the question, especially as us animal trainers don't make a ton of ...

Spydie Sighting - OLN's "E-Force"
A few weeks ago on Outdoor Life Network's new show "E-Force", which follows officers of Florida's Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission as they patrol the Keys, I caught a glimpse of a Spydie "in action", well sort of. An officer was dispatched to investigate a suspicious package, possibly ...

Spydercos for Zoo Keepers
Spyderco picked up a mention in the August issue of Animal Keepers' Forum, the monthly journal of The American Association of Zoo Keepers. In particular, the author singled out knives with a pocket clip and singlehanded opening as desirable features and found the Endura series to be a popular choice ...

I've been very happy with the results from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10. The Leica designed 12x (35-420mm 35mm equivalent), f2.8 (over the entire focal length range) image stabilized lens is a sweet piece of glass. The FZ10 is "only" 4 megapixels, but it cranks out some really fine images. It doesn't ...

Picked up a Kestrel 3000 from Sierra Trading Post a couple years ago when they were on clearance for about $45. The only "catch" is that it uses an older formula for calculating wind chill, something I'm not overly concerned about. It's great to have around on those, "gee, I wonder how windy it is ...
