Re: China
That is a related question I had. When it comes to producing budget knives, whether in China or the USA, Europe or elsewhere, what are the main costs? The labor, the materials themselves, or the supporting costs like shipping and marketing?
One reason I ask is because as some have brought up in ...

FRN molds are incredibly expensive…. Hardly something you do on a whim.SpyderEdgeForever wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 11:47 amMaybe Spyderco can make a test run of a budget general purpose fixed blade that goes for between 30 to 60 dollar price range with a budget steel and molded FRN grips and polypropylene sheath. 3 to 4 inch long blade.

Re: Kitchen knives
I, for one, am tired of the internet steel of the month. Even magnamax, a steel that hasn’t hit the market yet, is being demanded in every knife being made…. I want the new 2027 F350 tomorrow, I saw on the internet that it can drive on water. I demand Ford immediately stop producing all current ...

Re: Balance G10/SPY27 Sprint Review: An all-time great LBK, but probably not for everyone
I just hope Spyderco didn’t make too many of these, because if they have to discount it to move the left overs, it will make for some of very unhappy customers. It might be cute, but it is entirely over priced for the size. $30usd is probably more than I would spend on a keychain hanger, even if I ...

Sal, have you and Eric considered the Philippines as an allied manufacturing location for budget knives?
1 they are a long time US ally and China is an enemy state to them. Filipinos have directly told me they view the CCP as a dangerous aggressor.
2 The Philippines has a long history of ...

Re: Para 3LW - no lube or loctite?
Light weights do not require lube on the FRN (plastic) area of the pivot, but if it makes you feel better by all means. Keep in mind, lube, especially too much, attracts and holds dirt and debris where it isn’t wanted. And if you feel the need for loctite use the blue (not red or green) sparingly ...

Re: What to use to protect tool steel blades
Renaissance wax on coated blades, makes them look great. Nothing on the uncoated blades because I only carry stainless steel. Tuf-glide for mechanical lubrication. In my use S110V and H1/2, are all I carry these days, and they don’t rust.

Nope…. No Chinese knives. Don’t care who the manufacturer is, not going to happen.

Re: Sage 6 opened in pocket and bit me good :)
The button on the Sage 6 contacts the lock bar, and doesn't do anything until the knife is locked open. I think of it as the opposite of a side-opening automatic knife where the button allows the knife to open (and close), where on the Sage 6 pressing the button just allows the knife to ...

The button on the Sage 6 does stick out proud from the scales, and I’m wondering if it is possible to have the knife open if you were to lay the knife on a flat surface, button side down, and push the knife flat. It may be more of a ‘2nd detent/single detent’ question at that point.
The ...

Re: School me on the Stretch 2 XL Serrated in H2...
Yes it is linerless… the Stretch 2 XL Salt H2 SE is my EDC. It is also the lightest 4”(+/-) Syderco. It is wicked at yard work, as well as splitting biscuits…. I wish it was a Golden built knife and offered in S110v, that would be the only way anything could replace my H2 Salt in my pocket. The ...

Re: Sage 6 opened in pocket and bit me good :)
I had a Hogue Deka come partially open as I was pulling it out of a tight pants pocket while seated. Thumbstud snagged on the pocket seam. Spydiehole > thumbstud in this instance.
Don't know if a backlock would have fared better than the able-lock though, as PM2Josh said he had a close call with ...

Re: Something I drew up quickly on a CAD and photo studio for a machete idea.
Honestly, I could not figure out how to get the hole on there. Working with a tablet and CAD/AI program that does not allow me to draw a Spydie hole due to copyright reasons. This presents challenges for an older person like myself.
I just posted it as is and figured someone more skilled can post ...

Re: Something I drew up quickly on a CAD and photo studio for a machete idea.
Where is the spydie hole? Also what is the point of a finger choil on a machete? I like the idea of a heavier, broader tip like the first design. It adds weight where it is more advantageous for chopping.

Re: I don't want all compression locks switched to buttons but...
Axis (“crossbar”) locks solve the detente, ergonomic, and accidental unlock issues really well. I don’t know that I’d say it’s a better lock than compression lock, but if those things bother you it solves them well.
I don’t know if Spyderco would ever do a crossbar lock. It would be a little ...
