Seki Salts - colours and choils
In another thread, Sal has confirmed that we won't be seeing MagnaCut in the Seki Salts any time soon / potentially ever. Which is a crying shame, but I get that it isn't economically viable to move steel across borders multiple times.
So I wondered whether now could be the time to standardise the ...

Re: Crazy good deals - Europe edition
Many thanks for the heads-up! Have wanted a Ladybug Salt for ages but couldn't stomach the £70 price-tag. However at 50% discount it was a no-brainer :)ChrisinHove wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 2:42 pmhttps://arcticknife.com/
Some great deals here. Edge Matters forum member, and I have bought from here myself.

Re: MagnaCut in Seki knives
Farmer, for me it's almost the opposite. H1/H2 has made Magnacut redundant. I'm sure it's great, I'll probably get some someday, but I am so satisfied with H1 that I don't need to have it.
I tried the coarse edge approach but it still left me somewhat underwhelmed, both in terms of edge ...

Re: MagnaCut in Seki knives
Hi Farmer,
Some, like Vivi, might disagree? H1/H2 is still the most rust free steel we use. Vivi says he sharpens a plain edge with a coarse stone and it performs well. It's also made in Japan. Shipping steel from new York to Golden, and then shipping it to Japan, would increase the price just ...

Thanks Sal - always grateful to get a reply from the main man - even if it's not the answer I was hoping for! ;)
I am curious about one thing. I totally get what you say about serrated H2. But given its performance, doesn't MagnaCut make plain edge H2 rather redundant? In previous threads other ...

Re: Seki City back lock quality in 2022?
I don't know that age is a factor. I have about 10 Seki knives. The one with the worst lock rock is a fairly new PD#1 Endela sprint. It's not enough to keep me from using the knife, and I don't feel that the lock will fail, but it definitely has a noticeable amount of vertical play when you bear ...

Re: Seki City back lock quality in 2022?
Personally I never had an issue with lock rock until a couple of weeks ago. I changed blades between a pair of Salt 2s, one in PE LC200N and one in SE H2, purely because I much prefer the yellow handles. Before changeover one knife had essentially no lock rock and the other had a tiny bit, but only ...

Re: MagnaCut in Seki knives
Sorry for being the squeaky wheel and all that kind of thing, but I was wondering how things were progressing with getting MagnaCut into the Seki Salts? It's been >2 yrs since Sal said "I'm sure MC will get to Seki" but sadly no sign so far. Would love to know if this is ever going to happen!

Re: The PM2 Salt as a fishing knife
Really interesting review thanks Lance. And your thoughts on choosing MagnaCut over S30v make total sense. DItto wanting the +ve close of a backlock when you're hopping in/out of a kayak.
A quick question - do you ever find the blade on the PM2 a bit short? I'm guessing you're not filleting with it ...

Re: Stretch 2 XL LW salt in Magnacut?
Sal has said elsewhere that Magnacut will likely end up in the Seki line eventually, so don’t lose hope.
I take it as a good sign for Magnacut that the Spy27 models are being introduced - Spy 27 came out before Magnacut so presumably Magnacut is somewhere behind Spy 27 in the queue.
I might be ...

Re: Stretch 2 XL LW salt in Magnacut?
Yes I could see the MC Military and Manix models doing really well, even to the point of eclipsing their standard steels (if prices are comparable).
Conversely if you want MagnaCut but don't like choils then Spyderco has nothing to offer. Think I'll probably go Hogue for my next purchase.

Would love a Magnacut Delica or Salt 2...
Me too for a Salt 2.
Sadly though I suspect it's not going to happen. It's been a couple of years since Spyderco starting using MagnaCut and, other than in this thread, I don't think there's been any hint of MC making it to Seki. More recently Sal ...

Re: Stretch 2 XL LW salt in Magnacut?
Hi Kleon,
No immediate plans.
sal
That's a real shame, especially as IIRC one of the reasons for designing the Stretch 2 XL without liners was to make it easier to 'saltify' in the future.
I really hope these lack of plans don't extend to the rest of the Seki Salts, particularly the Salt 2 ...

sal I know you're a busy chap but I wondered if I could pick up this thread please and ask whether the Seki made models are any closer to getting Magnacut? It's nearly two years since the above and, to this consumer at least, it seems very odd that there is ...

Re: Folding knife for food or use in restaurants
They may not be Spydies, but for a combination of effectiveness and some disguise from prying eyes, it's hard to beat either a stainless Opinel or Laguiole. I guess it's no surprise the French have folding knives geared towards eating :)

It feels like this one is now well overdue. I wonder if there is some reluctance to release it because it could cannibalise Delica sales?

Re: Crucible bankruptcy video from Larrin
Fascinating video thanks Larrin. Reassuring that Crucible's steel recipes won't vanish but sad that the range on offer could potentially contract. Fingers crossed that a suitable bidder prevails in Feb and that Crucible's people, knowledge and focus are all retained.

That's frustrating and just a little bit of an odd response from them.
I've just had a look at one of mine and I can confirm the following:
There isn't a lanyard tube, although there is a slight rise to accommodate the moulded lanyard hole
There is plenty of clearance (ie several mm) between the ...
