Seki Salts - colours and choils

#1

Post by Farmer »

In another thread, Sal has confirmed that we won't be seeing MagnaCut in the Seki Salts any time soon / potentially ever. Which is a crying shame, but I get that it isn't economically viable to move steel across borders multiple times.

So I wondered whether now could be the time to standardise the colour across the line and have them all in yellow? My main motivation for asking this is that the green FRN used for LC200N Seki Salts really isn't anything to shout about (and that's putting it nicely). It's neither a high vis shade to help you avoid losing your knife, nor is it an aesthetically pleasing shade like BRG. I suspect Seki yellow would appeal to more people and make it clear it's a Salt. Alternatively why not use the same shade of green (a genuine high vis shade) as the Golden-made model?

Whilst on the topic of Salts, the lack of MagnaCut heading to Seki has another impact. If like me you love Spydercos, really want to try MagnaCut, but hate choils, then unfortunately you have precisely zero options. This seems like quite a gap in the offering and I REALLY wish it would be plugged!

I don't buy them to go diving with but I feel like this should be what dictates their color.

Seems like green and pink are the winners at deeper depths.

But I'm really no help otherwise because I'd just end up dying them anyway.

Bodacious Salt would solve your issue?

If you're asking me then it's always a yes, DLC and this awesome grooved G10, that'll be a knife to rule them all for me.

Ha, I knew you'd be into it :winking-tongue and I feel the same. But the question was directed to the choil-hater...

I don't dive anymore, so I'm mostly concerned with hi visibility on rocks, on a pier, in a kayak, etc. Yellow is great (honestly so is any hi-vis color), and I don't understand why Spyderco doesn't do the dynamite combination of yellow handle and DLC blade. A Bodacious with yellow G-10 and DLC would be killer, and easily dye-able for those who prefer subdued colors. H2 or MagnaCut would be wonderful.

I'm okay with green, and actually prefer it to yellow. The shade that Seki uses provides adequate contrast against green foliage.

Also, for those who can't wait for a Bodacious Salt, the Caribbean is already pretty close IMO.
