Oh no. I didn't know JD, other than through the few times we responded to each other's posts but, man, he seemed like a great guy. Loved his Golden Era posts, and his advocacy for certain models. Certainly one of the more influential forumites!

****, I had a bad feeling about this when I posted the other day. Incredible how quickly cancer can do this. He posted this thread and 2 months later he was gone.

Joe really was a pillar of this community. Always welcoming new members, acknowledging members birthdays, obviously his devoted love of models of knives that Sal and the crew ended up bringing back to life. I'll also miss talking football with him in our football threads.

This news definitely bummed out my Saturday, but I feel fortunate to have gotten to know a bit of Joe over these past 8 years of hanging around here on a regular basis.

As Joe liked to call this place "Spyderville"...it certainly won't be the same here without him, we lost our Mayor.

RIP Joe :preying

RIP Joe.

I miss him too. :(

He was one of the good ones, it's a real shame, what a waste.

RIP Joe! He was a great community member here. I hope he didn't suffer too much in the end.

I’m glad you had your faith to see you through, but you are missed, Joe.

So sorry I'm seeing this late. Joe was a great asset to the community and will be missed.

Because of Joe I'm the proud owner of 4 Ayoob Sprints.

His passion really came through and also instilled in me a love of his 'golden age knives (early 2000's-ish era).

RIP Joe. Your memory lives on here, with the Ayoob Sprint, and in many hearts.

Rest In Peace JD. I'll remember what he brought to the forum, and our discussions. Taught me a lot about oldies. My heart goes to his family, and everyone who knew him personally.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

When is another Jonas Salk going to appear, he found way to stop Polio. Cancer was around in 1930, and still no immunization for general public?

Bummer to hear about JD. I had a whole bunch of side conversations with him, mostly revolving around the Mariner model.

A lot easier to kill other organisms than fix our own. Immunization isn’t the right concept.

Cancer isn't a virus like Polio.

They will however figure it out eventually.

There are cures for cancer currently, but it is limited depending on the type and progression etc.

However forgo known proven treatments and it will kill you very fast.

I think cancer prevention will likely be some sort of gene therapy in the end.

I'm old enough to remember when childhood leukemia was basically a death sentence.

Now it's close to being completely cureable.

I agree-- I think true eradication of the evil C will have to come from our own genome.

We'll get there.

I'm not 100% it's him, but I'm confident enough this is JD to post it here - based on timeline, location, DOB, basic life details Joe has shared over the years, it tracks.
Unfortunately, I have to confirm that it is JD Spydo. I am now among those who miss him. The C29CFP Cricket Carbon Fiber he gave me almost 20 years ago will help me keep his memory alive. :crying-face

This is sad news. We have sadly lost a few of the old guard around here. I’m sure he knew how much he was valued here. I’m glad he got to see his Temp and Ayoob resurrected.

Rest in peace Joe. 😢
