With the K390 I have been trying to like it lol. Man here in the summer I sweat like a hog and my Police4 really takes it on the chin. It gets down in the porosity of the K390 and you can't clean it all off.

Thanks. I was extrapolating CATRA and toughness from a Larrin post where he'd commented MagnaMax had edge retention closest to K390, and depending on the heat treat, toughness similar to 10V or K390. There was also a TCC graphic posted by Larrin that indicated "MagnaWear" had TCC between 700-750 (same neighborhood as K390, ZDP-189, S110V). Was MagnaMax called MagnaWear for awhile?

After running just over 3,200 linear feet of double walled cardboard, it wasn't cutting printer paper cleanly anymore (Cedric & Ada standard) so I decided it was time to resharpen. After more time than I care to admit on my Work Sharp Precision Adjust, I have a super keen 17° edge and a newfound desire to upgrade to a TSProf. This Magnamax is no joke - it felt much harder on my diamond abrasives than S90V and 15V to reprofile and make wicked sharp. I've gotta get a resin-bonded stone sharpening system before I go through the next high intensity test

MagnaWear was one of the names that Larrin was kicking around for this steel, yes. good corrosion resistance but not salt levels of corrosion resistance
holds up fine to some light batoning,the kind of stuff I'd be comfortable doi g with my large, beefy folders like manix xl's / c95's.
getting on some edge retention testing soon. may need to wait until our next order comes in at work so I can gather up more cardboard. if its equal to k390 it'll go through a lot before it stops cutting.
for my sake i'll start with a fairly polished edge. sharpmaker medium or fine rods. then after doing some testing I may try something a little thinner and toothier.
eyeball estimates / sharpmaker use puts the edge on the one I'm testing around 16 degrees on one side, 19 degrees on the other. 15 degree slots didn't work so great but the 20 degree slots hit both sides well.

I have a rope cut test that I've been doing for a few years now, and have some comparable numbers from known "high performers". The test is just like Peat's test from Cedric & Ada, but I use 1/2" Polly rope because I think it's harder.
I tested the factory edge on my MT46P and it did 300 cuts. This is an incredible number for a stainless steel! The highest number for a stainless steel before this one was 120 on the M398 mule, and that was with my 17° edge that normally performs better than factory. I've had Magnacut do 100, and LC200n at 90, but a stainless at 300.... Crazy!
For more context, the K390 stretch with my edge did 250 and the Rex-121 sage with the factory edge did 330... Crazy!
I noticed that the Chromium is 10.65? That isn't stainless level??? I also noticed a .2 Nitrogen addition. Is this Magnacut-vn? Is the nitrogen where it gets its stainlessness?

Shawn (BBB) did a nice video explaining this for MagnaCut. You can probably find it on his socials. For its first week, my MT46P lived in the kitchen: slicing peaches was a breeze, and it tore through a whole cardboard box without trouble. After all that cardboard the edge is still sharp but soft tomatoes sometimes got smooshed when I prepped summer squash, onions, tomatoes, kale, and corn for pasta primavera the other night. The nub is annoying for food prep so that will need to go. I’m holding off on sharpening for now to see how it continues to develop.
I have been carrying it around for general use and it is working really well, but I know I am not stressing it.

I've been using the SE since release but just pulled out the PE to play with it a bit.
I know this is an easy fix, but the PE I got has the worst factory edge with a large burr (catches on the nail easily), and catches on printer paper and wont slice cleanly even at a very steep angle. Really an awful edge. Easily the worst out of 15 spyders spanning Golden, Seki, and Taichung. The burr sharpened off easily, but still, the PE had the worst factory edge I've seen from any new knife, cheapo chinese ones included.
SE has been great and I'm enjoying both, but man my PE edge was baaad out of the box.
I like the Mules a lot, but still, QC is important.

Sorry about the edge. A few strokes on the corner of the white stone on the Sharpmaker should clean that up, assuming you have a Sharpmaker. And if you don't, I would recommend getting one and a magnifying loupe about 10X - 12X.
If you use it, you are going to need to sharpen it eventually, and that's part of the testing you are doing for us on the Mule Team project. And to let us, and the other folks here, what your experience with it is? Sorry you have to mess with the edge.

Thank you sal, it's no problem in the grand scheme. It sharpened off easily and I'm loving magnamax overall (especially SE). If anything I'm sorry for being whiny.
I've been using the SE in the kitchen, yard, and a little camping. The SE seems just like a mini Temperance2 Cruwear but with M390 or better stainlessness and K390 edge holding. Probably jumping to become my favorite SS, or at least competing with S90V.
I'm definitely looking forward to this hitting regular production in the next year or 2.
Larrin's steels do a lot of things right and imo generally deserve their hype. He's inventing a novel set of characteristics with the Magna lines.

I think something that goes with the territory is that the Mule Team knives are meant to be used and abused. A burr from the factory might be a bummer, but the reality is, any real tester will be putting their own edge on it sooner than later and most likely have the necessary sharpening equipment and strops to crank out a wicked sharp edge.
I'm on the third edge of my MT46P right now. The factory edge cut through a hair under a kilometer of cardboard. The second was put through its paved carving on very hard vine maple sourced from southern Washington until it was so chipped up that I couldn't hone & strop it back. This third edge is being used for EDC purposes while I scout-carry it in the Spyderco boltaron sheath. Who knows what the 4th edge will be for!
