I slapped an order in the second I saw the e-mail from DLT this morning. Been dying for this one!

@Red Leader, this one still has PB washers, right?
I looked reeeeal close at the action of this one because it was a little gritty and I was trying to figure out if it was coming from the blade/lock friction or more of the side friction.

I 100% saw a bronze washer in there, but my eyes didn’t make out if there was one on the other side. Very well could have been, and makes a lot of sense that if there is one, there should be two, I just couldn’t tell.

I also heard that the regular Native 5 crucartas may be coming as early as the end of this week, and while it might be a wild rumor…best to keep your eyes open.
Bronze washers are visible on both sides through the pocket clip holes. Stock photo from KnifeCenter.

Looks like these are still linerless and use helicoils for the clip screws??
Someone confirmed they were linerless when I asked a while back. Kinda surprised me as Spyderco deemed micarta too flexy without a considerable retooling of full liners for the PM2 and M2. I'm guessing they employed some seriously ridged version of micarta for this model.

It must have something to do with milling the scales out for nested liners vs leaving them at full thickness for a linerless design. I think it's a different situation with a back lock vs a compression lock where you either need to nest the liner with the lock bar or have a full liner. There's surely some strength difference between G10 and Micarta but I'm betting you'd still shear of screws or snap the blade before you verify which is weaker of the two.

That’s what came to my mind as well. You’d have to have an internal cutout for the compression lockbar, and perhaps Spyderco deemed it too much a compromise on a compression lock without full liners.

I paid for the shipping upgrade so mine should arrive tomorrow. Probably won't be able to get the package until I get back from an event in the evening but I'll post some impressions & images tomorrow night.

Forgive the ignorance, but what are helicoils? How do they compare to say the brass inserts in some Salt models?

Helicoils are used to repair stripped threads. Basically, it is a coil of spring wire threaded into a hole with worn or stripped threads and left there to form new threads. I imagine they use threaded inserts rather than helicoils for this application.

Yeah, that. Helicoils is not the correct term, they're not exactly the same thing. They're using some kind of threaded insert.

Here in the ole Crash'em up industry we call them either Nutserts or Rivnuts, being down South it's more Nutserts.

Just got mine in this afternoon. You can tell this model is gonna have some funny centering issues just because of the micarta w/o liners, but nothing worse than what happens on the LW models. Overall much better feel than the LW thanks to PB washers and much more comfortable scales, but not giving up much weight, still feels super light for a knife this size. Action will definitely need a bit of breaking in; not feeling anything gritty, helps to add a drop of Nano-Oil to the lock face area. Overall feels worth the wait so far.

I received mine yesterday. The scales are very stiff, almost zero give in them when grasping the knife to make them deflect.

Very nice knife!

Have not noticed anything shaggy about the grips. Very nice knife, but there are many man other Spyderco Native Chiefs to choose from.

Collect one for every day of the week!!!!
