by the way, the 420j2 is srached pretty easily ;) the ZDP is not of course. after cutting a few boxes, it becomes clear that the two steels are not the same quality :D

but although i've scratched the 420J2 part, my gold spyder remains intact. i don't think it will last forever but for now, it's OK ...

there are two main things that i prefer in the caly:

1- you can put your index near the blade and hold the knife between your thumb and your index. you can't with the delica, and it's very important. better grip, more precision.

2- the pivot and the lock of the caly jr (at lest ZDP) are thicker ...

calypso jr Vs delica

i think that these two great designs are pretty similar in size and use. i'm not talking about ZDP here, just about the shapes.

i'm surprised that the delica is the best seller because i think that the handle of the calypso Jr. is a better design.

i'd like to know what all of you think. which ...

it doesn't matter fo me.
i carry a tip up knife on my right side, and a tip down knife on my left side. in both case the knife comes perfectly in my right hand for a quick opening :)

it would be definitely better with a spyderhole, H1 blade, G10 handle and a shackle tool :D

i wouldn't trust ATS 34 to be rust resistant enough.

sea is **** for knives, paradise for us :D

are automatic knives really more dangerous or quick to deploy than others?
a good one hand opening knife can be ready to cut as fast as an auto in my sense. And what about fixed blades?

i think allowing locking blades but banning autos is nonsense.

Ii'm not very fond of automatics, i don't ...

a shackle tool is used to unscrew these :

http://bosunsupplies.com/ProductShackle.cfm

shackles are everywhere on a boat, and replace knots.

very useful tool, when you don't want to destroy your fingers (especialy wet and cold fingers)

i've think of this thread for a few days and i'm definitely ...

By the way. Technically speaking the Salt series knives by Spyderco are all Sailors knives although not the traditional looking ones we are use to seeing like the one in the attatchment. The Atlantic is known for being a very rough sea and the Pacific a "passive" one hence the name origin. Notice ...

well... let's see what you need after a natural disaster.

- something light
- something serrated for serious cutting (seatbelt, clothes, ropes, wood...)
- a good tip
- i think an isolated handle is good (for wires, just in case)
- something you won't loose easily (black handle, not too good ...

salt I yellow handle & spyderedge.

well, i think we must agree that the reliability of a lock is more a matter of quality than a matter of system.

personnally, i had problems with lockbacks, and i just don't trust lockbacks since. the lock is too exposed, and i think more sensitive to dirt. my finger remembers  but that ...
