Larrin, great job! Thank you for all the effort and time put into this project. The reception was indeed great of your work except in K razy K utters F orum ;) - where it is a bit rocky. I hope we can see more steels tested soon and have rope cutting results as well. Good luck in modifying the machi...
So, I just lost my favorite EDC knife, Chaparral in FRN. My initial though was to get a new one to replace the lost one. But, I was not following the knife market for few years, including Spyderco's and I am always up-to trying something new. Is there anything that can realistically replace Chaparra...
Unless its a very ****** steel, I will stop at around 4K (JIS) does not matter the purpose much. It definitely varies mostly based on how I feel, but 4K is in the middle ground. I have multiple stones for a reason. For soft stainless I will stop at 1K (JIS). There are few exceptions, but the above i...
Damsteel For FRN? Really? HAP72, in the same class as Maxamet. XVC11, in the same class as M4. HAP72 has popped up a few times on a few Russian forums, our guys are doing stuff to it and the reviews I've seen are glowing. It may be hard to work with, though - not just the heat treat (which would, I...
You are tough man.
Just don't forget to complain to the store customer service and lettig them know the reason. Otherwise, I am afraid, your boycot will be in vain.
Normal stuff, nothing to see here. Nothing to do with freedom etc. Private entity provide you a free access to something and they have implemented restrictions that they deem reasonable. If you do not agree or want a change brig your case to the companie's customer care. Alternatively you can stop u...
So no axe, not even my little GB wildlife hatchet, which really does not weigh much. Definitely NO friggin' big chopper blades (I have a bunch and enjoy them, but usually not that useful for most cutting chores). I DO carry a medium-sized fixed blade (4-5") because that IS a really handy size for m...
I am with the knife is not an axe crowd. Get a camp/bushcraft type of a knife and a good axe or hatchet. I just don't see a plausible scenario where survival knife will be needed. If one is on day relaxing hike I doubght you will take a masseive blade with you. If one is going outdoor for a night or...
Well HTed AEB-L should able to hold very acute and stable angle with high polish. I would say that's the biggest advantage. I am not sure this is something an EDC or hard work folder/knife will greatly benefit of. Something like gyuto, razor, scalpels and alike will be my fist choices for this steel.
No, you do not need anything else per se. Even with AUS-8 and 440C or even 420HC etc you will be okay as long as HT is good.
But as most have pointed out, need and want are not always aligned
