Spyderco Caribbean: More picture

#1

Post by SpyderEdgeForever »

I found this on the internet:

https://www.reddit.com/r/knifeclub/comm ... s_awesome/

That shows you the open view of the Sheepsfoot and also the serrated leaf shaped pointed one.

Very nice very cool very amazing design.

Is there any basic rough estimate of how much these will cost, so people who are interested can earmark and save up for one or more?

IMHO this is easily the ugliest Spyderco I've ever seen.

Any word on the weight? That's what I'm most curious about at this point. Hoping 4oz or under, but I'll buy one as long as its under 6.

I used to think the handles were ugly, now I love them!

I still think they look like Sea Kraits. Fitting for sure.

Like the Caribbean but would prefer the LC200N in a longer fixed blade or a Ti Military framelock. Really love the compression lock, but simple is good when blood and guts are in the equation.

Based on what we can see of its structure and parts, do you think this knife would hold up well for butchering and processing fish in both salt and fresh water?

And do you think it is strong and sharp enough to even shear through fish bones?

One would think the knife would hold up well for butchering and filleting fish however the compression lock and liners would probably require a good cleaning after use, especially in saltwater. I bought my son a nice fillet knife in S35vn and he put it away in a sheath with moisture in it. Even good stainless will rust pretty quickly if not cared for properly. I don't think small bones in fish would be any problem, however large rib cage bones like those in a grouper might cause chipping, especially if trying to hack through them. I haven't used the LC200n so I can't really speak to it's characteristics. From everything I read folks seem to like the steel. Looking forward to the fixed blade LC200n Sal has spoken of.

Haven't held it in hand, but I think I'll like the handle shape a lot. I prefer the handle to extend all the way past the pinky out the back of my hand, and kind of "lock" itself in place with a little hump or which have you. Like on the Millie. Looks like the caribian has a nice down swooping back end on the handle, which puts it more and more on my radar. I like to have a pointy tip usually, so that spear/drop point whatever you want to call it version looks practical, but man that sheepsfoot just fits, very aesthetically pleasing.

I have almost no use for a rust-proof/super rust resistant knife (I'ts pretty dry here where I'm from,) How does the LC200N preform in comparison with some well known super steels in the edge retention, sharpenablilty, toughness etc. factors?

Check out Youtuber Cedric and Ada (https://www.youtube.com/user/CedricAda). He did some testing with the Spydiechef and it puts LC200N between M4 and XHP. Pretty solid performance for a steel that is essentially rust proof.

Any updates on a release?

Also not a fan of the scales but I think it's unique and worth living with for a couple months. Might just be one of those "now I love it" experiences. I've had plenty of those (was disappointed with the feel of FRN at first but now fully appreciate it).
The first time I saw a Spyderco was the early 90s at a knife shop in a mall. I can still see the SpydieHoles through that glass display cabinet. My parents wouldn't buy any of them for me... so now I buy them all. :spyder:

Maybe orange dye for a Monarch-like look (orange and black).
