Broken UKPK

#1

Post by FutureGhost »

Hi,

I bought a spyderco UKPK a few months ago through amazon in the UK, it is a fantastic tool and really handy to have for EDC related tasks.

However, it was unfortunately knocked off the kitchen counter (about waist height) and one of the arms of the slip lock mechanism appears to have snapped leaving me with no safety lock at all.

I have tried to contact spyderco through amazon UK to no avail, I have even emailed spyderco through their website but as of yet have not received a reply. I cant seem to source parts here in the UK.

Can anyone give any advice on what i can do to get my UKPK fixed? I would rather not have to purchase another one if possible
knife laws in the UK mean most knives are a no go due to their blade length and lock mechanism so my options are limited if i have to shop for a replacement

many thanks in advance

Unless they make an exception and mail you parts, you'll probably have to mail it back to Golden. That definitely sucks and shipping cost is going to suck but that's the cost of buying and shipping overseas. I've had to deal with it myself on a bunch of things from England.

****, I was hoping that wouldn't be the case.

There doesn't appear to be any info on international returns on the Spyderco website so I guess I'll just have to send it off and hope I get it back.

I tried to call but was on hold for a while at £1 per minute, I didn't fancy spending that money listening to the hold music when i could spend that money drowning my sorrows with several pints.....

Thanks for the reply Evil D - much appreciated

Well this thread may grab their attention so give it a little time. You may also try contacting Kristi through the Facebook page. I don't think returns and such is her department but she may be able to help get you in touch with the right person.

I don't know that Spyderco wants to get into making a bunch of exceptions, and they probably have a legitimate need to look at the broken pieces to see if there is a larger issue.

Still, this came up here on the forum very recently and I thought it would only be fair to share the thread:

Thanks Nate, that's exactly what has happened to mine, same arm and by the looks of it (i haven't opened the unit in fear of voiding my warranty) it has snapped in the same position.

I have sent a few emails to Spyderco so hopefully i will get a response soon, in the meantime I will have a look at their Facebook page like Evil D suggested.

Its a shame as its a nice little EDC knife, when it broke i was about to use it to put up a new washing line in my garden which i then had to do with a breadknife while looking forlornly at my broken UKPK. haha

Hi, FutureGhost:
Welcome to our forum. I'm sorry to hear about your UKPK. E-mails through the "Contact" page of our site are all funneled through our outlet store which is, unfortunately, short staffed at this time. I'm sorry you haven't received a reply yet.

Could you please e-mail a picture of your knife as it is now to customerservice@spyderco.com. Please include your contact information (full name, address, e-mail) as well as a link to this thread and a description of what happened. I'll let our Warranty & Repair team know to expect your e-mail and we'll do our best to make this right.

We hope you continue to visit the forum and enjoy your time with us. Make it a good day!

Kristi

Hi Kristi

yeah the first few messages were sent using the embedded form in your website

I managed to get the customer service email address today and have just been speaking to Charlynn regarding the matter.

I will take a picture this evening and send it over to you along with the other information you requested, before getting the unit itself sent over the pond to you guys in the states.

big thank you to everyone who replied for your help with this, its very much appreciated.

:-)

If you have to ship the knife to Golden and pay for the round trip, it would be almost more economical to buy a new one. Unfortunately :(

You should be able to keep the package below 100g, and within the "large letter" size making it £8.35 if your happy with an insured value of £50.

Managed to get in sent off on Saturday.

Came in around 90g and postage was about what you mentioned.

They weren't going to accept it once I told them the contents but I thought that may happen so had the relevant pages of the royal mail FAQ page ready to rock on my phone. Haha

Fingers crossed it can be fixed.
