Re: Highest cutting performance per ounce

This is my first post on here. I think the Delica is one of the all time great edc knives. I’m not sure if it has the highest cutting performance per ounce but it is great!

I agree with this. The Delica is simply one of the best models of folding knives ever produced, and my absolute favorite ...

Re: Highest cutting performance per ounce

Seems like an almost pointless super generic question, with so many variables that need to be defined, and drastically different definitions of terms like "cutting performance".

And who cares about a half an ounce or even a full ounce here or there? What are you looking for, a knife for a two year ...

Re: Why CPM 3V

OK OK -- remove the word "luck" since that's obviously giving people gas pains. What I understand salimoneus as saying, is that there may not be as large a payoff for tweaking the heat treats of other steels, as there was for 15V.

Yes absolutely, it certainly wasn't luck involved with the skill ...

Re: When will first MagnaMax Spydercos show up ?

There is no magic steel, it's all a trade-off depending on what aspects you prioritize.

But what the Magna steels prove is that if you deprioritize the Chromium aspect, you have to trade off less of everything else.

What the Magna steels prove is that you can have high stainless properties ...

Re: Why CPM 3V

A lot of times it takes extreme care over temperatures (down to the degree) and minimal handling time between steps. That's achievable when making 1 or 2 blades at a time, but not necessarily when heat treating hundreds in one go. What Shawn did with 15V is incredible. And for Spyderco to be able ...

Re: Blade HQ Milled Jade G10 PARA 3 Exclusive

I'm pretty sure I saw earlier this morning that the liners are not coated, so maybe I'm way off on the hardware being Salt related. Maybe BHQ just thinks it looks cool 🤷🏻‍♂️

You’re totally right David, the liners aren’t coated! Why on earth the satin ones have black screws is beyond me. Great ...

Re: Why CPM 3V

I think BBB may have just gotten lucky in that 15V had some room to be improved by additional fine tuning of the steel treatment, where as this isn't necessarily the case for all steels. Not taking any credit away, but just pointing out that the potential may not be there with most other steels. He ...

Re: M2 15V lock stick default?

Something as common as "lock stick" on a compression model, you'd think there would be a primary cause identified by now, I've been hearing about this issue for years and years.

So nobody has identified any specific treatment (light polishing/sanding/etc) that resolves the problem?

Does sending it ...

Re: Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Knife Diamond Mesh Natural G-10 (MagnaCut)

Also, why even DLC a Magnacut blade? I thought the main reason for a coating was to prevent corrosion. Does that suggest Magnacut isn't as corrosion resistant as suggested, or is this purely a fashion type thing? Totally not understanding why they even bother with this. Are Salt models typically DLC ...

No need to beat around the bush on this one, as stated in other threads it's just pure laziness and cost savings to use the same hardware on both, period. There is no other reasoning that makes sense.

Shawn's 15V is a it of an anomaly. It looks like we won't be able to get more of it due to Crucible's bankruptcy. So if you want a sample of Shawn's special 15V, I would say to get it while you can.
Most important bit of info you could ask for right there regarding this topic.

Re: K390 - Manix2 or Shaman?

I love K390 and I directionally agree, and yet comparatively a Cold Steel in AUS10A or 8CR vs a K390 blade with large hole in it are orders of magnitude different in the hard use category. Because the Cold Steel option is widely available and cost effective, it is an easy choice. I'm reminded ...

Re: K390 - Manix2 or Shaman?

K390 may have better toughness in the contexts of steels with high wear resistance, but it still sort of lies on the spectrum opposite to a lot of tougher steels like Z-Tuff, 3V, 8670, 14C28N, and others.

I think there's some misconception about how tough K390 is. Yes, comparative to other ...

Re: K390 - Manix2 or Shaman?

It seems like Spyderco has chosen K390 for their Seki models, and 15V for the Golden models (besides the BBS PM2 and Para 3) I'm sure there's a reason behind that. They didn't get this far on luck. I know the reasons have been discussed before and Sal has chimed in himself. Probably tough to ...

I'm sure they could slap a K390 engraving on a non stonewashed 15V blade and you would never know the difference

So you're saying that the actual users of Spyderco products are too stupid to even know the difference if they simply stamped the blade with a different steel marker?

People get too caught up in this stuff. Just use your knives and sharpen to your best ability and let your own results decide for you. This extreme level of nerdness isn't really necessary in a pocket knife! It's ok to be simple/simpfly ;)

It seems to be thought into way too deeply sometimes ...
