Re: What could this be?

About 5 years ago I bought an Estwing Rip Claw hammer. It appeared to have a hairline crack in the handle under one of the stickers. The retailer agreed, and gave me a new one. He did not want the cracked one back, so I figured I'd just use it hard and see if it broke...

It could be a hairline crack. You could do a dye test to verify...

Re: Victorinox New Range

At first I was intrigued, but now I feel underwelmed.

They've added all these bells and whistles, instead of fixing the one major flaw that should have been fixed years ago, in my opinion. The blade steel.

They have access to several makers of modern PM steels, right on their doorstep. But still ...

I did not like the AWT skinny scales. Micarta is much better.

I like your version much better than the plasticky ones out there... The brass pops beautifully against the brown G10. 👍

Re: China

...have the city name on the blade, pretty please :beaming-face The city name just does something psychologically for adding a bit of "soul" and character to the knife. It makes it more local and connected to the people who actually made it, and less focused on a nation-state. When I talk about my ...

Another two...

I've used the Delica K390 quite a bit in the garage over the last few months. I plan to swap it with the Sage Maxamet to see how that holds up with similar use. I sharpened both to 1000 grit, the Delica @ 15 dps, the Sage @ 18 dps.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2

End of the factory edge. Reprofiling was quick and easy, and reminded me again how great Cruwear is to sharpen.

I flamed the clip. I really like how it pops against the brown micarta. It blends in well with jeans and khakis.

Re: Is Maxamet from Taiwan better than from USA?

One explanation is that the Sage is a smaller knife (shorter blade and shorter handle) than the Manix and PM2's. As a result, you'll generate less leverage when you apply lateral force, and are less likely to break it.

A better comparison is perhaps Sage vs Para 3?

My view for using any tool is ...

Re: Aqua Salt LC200N

I'd prefer a Temperance in Magnacut to be honest. I think Magnacut is tough enough, with much better edge stability due to the higher hardness.

But, I'm already sorted with a couple of Temps and a Waterway in LC200N.

I'm not an American, so I do not have "a dog in this fight".

However, I also avoid Chinese-made products whenever I can. In general I do not trust their business practices and product quality, based on well-deserved bad reputations they've earned over decades. This is especially true for product ...

I could not care less about packaging. In my view it should only be functional enough to get the knife to me undamaged.
