Re: Beautiful packaging

I would rather have better blade steel than better packaging. Where was the microtech made?

Re: Spyderco service really this bad

I had a Sage 1 that was assembled in the time frame when Spyderco was using loctite. I stripped a screw and mailed it in and Spyderco replaced the stripped screw for me and replaced the others as I did not want them loctited. Spyderco does have good customer service in my opinion, just give them ...

Re: Authenticity check

Your picture is kind of small to really look at details. I try to look at the entirety of the knife, box, paperwork, end of box model description, font on blade, fasteners and compare to other pictures of the same model on websites if you can. I do not own that model to be more specific on the ...

Can't you just use Bar Keeper's Friend to scrub the rods to clean them up?

I have a Sage 1 in S30V. I bought it used on the secondary market. Stick with what you have. I am not sure there is much difference.

Re: Gayle Bradley 1 - Spirit/Exclusive

When the GB1 first came out they had solid liners. The later ones had skelontized liners. The solid liners obviously had more weight but both have a hefty weight to them. It is funny there were many on the secondary market after they came out as some did not like them. Now that they are discontinued ...

Re: Seki City back lock quality in 2022?

After I saw this thread I had to check several K390 knives. I did see the chip as shown in the pictures previously in about 1/3 of the knives. I also did check for lock rock and noticed it in about 1/3 of the knives. I did not notice the lock rock before in the lock back knives and I have several ...

Re: With all the knowledge on edge geometry out there, why are factory edges still so common?

I am always amazed at the amount of knives people will own and then complain about spending money or wanting a really cheap sharpening system. It makes no sense to me. I think most people would be better off with less number of knives that are a high quality and a good sharpening system to keep them ...

Re: Thoughts to share on a foundry

Sal,

Your idea is interesting. What kind of money would it take to do that and I expect it would be someone more senior in life and do you want to take that kind of risk later in life?

To be an entrepreneur you have to have vision and the willing to risk and is that the industry to get into.

I got into ZDP-189 and liked it but have not seen much of it used lately. Good to know it is still being used by Spyderco. My favorite Stretch 2 is a ZDP-189 knife.

The Swayback came in a padded case.

The knives I really like I usually have a couple. One gets used and the other is a backup or to keep nice, if I choose.

Re: Stainless steel cutting boards

We HAD a granite cutting board in the house until my wife told me about it.

Hopefully it's still around. It would make a great improvised surface plate... assuming it's not too hacked up from using it as a cutting board.

It is still around. I have a glass plate for truing up stones but ...
