My first was a plain-vanilla Delica 4, acquired back in 2008. The addiction (and collection) has developed considerably since then.

My vote is for a ZDP Dragonfly. It has an extremely sharp, thin blade (~2mm I think), is large enough to be easy to handle and usable, yet small enough to be carried ubiquitously.

I've owned all three, and I haven't noticed an appreciable difference in performance between steel-lined and not. I guess it's a little more peace of mind, but for the tasks I do with my knives, it doesn't really matter.

I usually buy another while a few of my Spydies are up in Golden getting professionally sharpened. They're not here, so why not? :)

Thanks for all the replies! I picked up some Brasso metal polish last night (closest thing I could find, bottle said it works on stainless), and the discoloration came right off. My Sage is gorgeous once again!

All the knives in my collection are users, so I try to bear in mind an actual purpose for the knife in my uses and how different the knife is from others already in my collection (I won't own FFG Delicas in every color, I prefer some variety). I also have some ironclad rules:

I'm not a "collector's collector", but I can speak to EDC use. The Delicas and Enduras in all their variations are pretty much canonical for everyday use Spydies, and I can't rave enough about my Sage1. I'm currently deciding between the Para2 and the Centofante3 next paycheck. This might just turn the key for me.

I personally prefer hollow-ground blades (check out the Centofante3) for slicing through thinner media, and full flat-ground blades (like the Delica4/Endura4 FFG) for thicker stuff.

IMO, any product with tight tolerances that is mass-produced will have inconsistencies. Spyderco is among the best I've seen among production knife manufacturers in terms of overall build quality, edge geometry (not just factory sharpness, but how well the edge wears and re-sharpens over time ...

I have a Rescue 79mm in my carry rotation, and that monster just devours cardboard and plastic packaging. I'll jump onto the "me too" bandwagon, as I also received my Sage 1 from CS this morning. Absolutely no F&F issues, the blade came wicked-sharp, and it fits even my smallish hands well. Definitely a keeper, and I can see why so many folks on the forums love the Sage.

I've gifted a Persistence to my stepbrother and a Dragonfly G-10 to my girlfriend (who is very supportive of my knife infatuation). Also, I own a Dragonfly2 in FRN, so we have hers-and-his pocket knives. :D
