Why is it that I can get my knives "shaving" sharp but they won't shave my face? What Jedi secret must I know?

All I will add to this thread is that straight razors are the shape they are after years of refinement. Sharpening a straight razor properly (according to the gurus) requires different ...

Re-release all models with a high hollow grind. :)

Well - I suppose a lot depends on what you're cutting but for me a thin FFG slices and dices better than hollow. Once you start cutting thicker materials the hollow grind jams. The hollow grind is also the weakest edge shape.

I like hollow ...

I relatively familiar with "knife steels" but not so much with tool steels. Does anyone know which knife steels 01 and D2 compare to, by knife steels I mean like 440C, S30V, 154CM, etc.

Thanks

Why limit the comparison to 01 and D2

Forgive my ignorance. This is a genuine question and I am not trying to be sarcastic.

I understand the value of a knife when diving/fishing and even canoeing, but why do you need a knife for swimming?

That said - a Wharncliffe style blade would be my preference ...

Much as I appreciate Sal's willingness and generosity in seeking solutions, the only long term answer is to do what New Hampshire did. Yeah - I know it's gonna be a lot harder and take a lot longer, but even 12 months ago who would have thought that law abiding NH citizens would have their win.

first off, welcome Nikki, sorry about the knife that was confiscated. i am a fireman in Chicago. if fixed blades are easy to get into your country i would recommend a spyderco jumpmaster.

Not in all States and it is discretionary on the part of LE - but if you've ever had to clean grafitti off a building you'd be wishing for a heftier fine

Personal preferences aside (as much as they can be for this question) with the exception of offering better slicing ability, are there any other appreciable benefits to this grind, especially when it leaves you with a very thin blade ...

I always put on the finest edge the knife will hold in its applications, prefer a convexed or micro-convexed edge, and I also have a habit of stropping my knives frequently - both before and after use - which is one reason I tend to avoid serrated edges. My belief is that the best edge is the one ...

68 on a Spyder Edge.

Less on a plain, like 63 I want to say. This is all easily accessible info that has been on the forums for ages.
