Re: What is your all time favorite steel?

3V is my favorite overall since the extreme toughness makes it capable for anything, whether a sword or a razor. It has almost as much edge retention as MagnaCut but it's 3 times as tough,

Where are you getting the 3x as tough data point from?

Larrin's data. At 61.5 hardness, 3V is 3 ...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Will the Spyderco Native 5 Salt C41PYL5 plain edge ever be available again? For ages this model is not in stock around the globe. Anyone an idea?

Seconding this question. Been waiting a while and the plain edge is never in stock anywhere. Would like this to be my new work knife but seems ...

Also from the Florida Gulf area and have had incredible experiences with my k390 stretch 2. Experienced unparalleled edge retention and very little rust when with a patina in place.

Has slowly become my favorite steel.

In no particular order

1. Police 3 - This is an amazing design. And possibly the best fit and finish to ever come out of Seki. I'd put it up against any Taichung model. Just a beautiful and balanced large folder.

2. Manix 2 XL - A great hard use knife. The handle ...

Re: Sprints/Exclusives since JAN 2019

Hello. Is the Native 5 lightweight salt (magnacut) a sprint/exclusive or just a regularly made model that is planned in the future?

This store has a bunch of the Taichung models like the chef/Kapara/drunken etc. Looking at Twosun stuff and this is getting pushed. Looks like they are using logo/branding/wrapping and everything.

Re: Golden Age of Supersteels Over???

Anyway, I think Eric will one day be trying to figure out how to make knives of things we have not dreamed about.

Sprint run Unobtainium you say?

14c28n reminds me of a dollar store version of LC200N.

14c28n can get significantly harder though, which is a huge benefit when lc200n is only ...

Re: Golden Age of Supersteels Over???

I think the more long term future of the steel industry (in relation to knives) is with a completely new medium. In the meantime I am not sure how you figure it "moves like a glacier" as the last 30 years have brought us an increasing fast rate of improvement in knife steel. We went from developing ...

Of course i can only speak for myself, but the day every Spyderco comes with compression lock is when i look elsewhere for interesting designs and knives.
I don't hate the compression lock but i don't see it as the second coming of Christ/ best invention since sliced bread either.. :)

Re: Cruwear Temperance Sprint Run. Is a Home Run IMO!!!

Its wild that many of the top steels even today have been around so long. Obviously it was under a different name (vascowear) and was ingot steel but still cool to see here in 2025 CPM Cruwear holds up to the best out.

Re: Kapara s90v burlap micarta KnifeCenter exclusive

I have always said that I would buy any Kapara variant that came out, but I wasn’t in a good spot to buy this one when it came out. I figured I would eventually have to pick one up on the secondary market when funds allow. Well my wife surprised me and picked one up for me. I gotta say that it’s ...

As far as bushcraft/survival knives not really. Obviously we have a couple however they are difficult to find for the most part. Would love to see more in some cool steels.

Re: PM2 in 15V or Magnacut or Cruwear ?

The BBB CPM 15V is a sprint run so it won't always be available.

CPM 15V is a very difficult steel to manufacturer, so it may not always be available in the future.

Crucible Industries LLC went to great lengths to produce the steel, it puts a great amount of wear and tear on the ceramic ...
