Of course, I wanted to summarize but yeah, I sadly know that many states have restrictions on knives. I just wanted to say that there are still quite a few places in the world where carrying a 5" folding knife isn't illegal. Sorry for being too generalist.
No worries.

Re: Why Did The Jumpers Fail?

In my "knife" friend group, most of the mlove blade length or 4" and over. And we're in France, I'm sure the US (and other less restricted countries) will have more than enough people that welcome a 5" Police with open arms !

But you're right, as Sal said it's still niche, the size of the niche ...

This is the one I've wanted since I first tried a Manix 2 lightweight in BD1N. I'm grateful Spyderco made it a regular model.

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

Had an old 30-gal plastic trash can that needed to be trashed. Cut it up into disposable pieces pretty handily with a Temperance Cruwear SE.

Also cut a bunch of fresh growth from a blackberry bush that keeps peeking through the fence from the neighbor’s yard. Last time I used a LeafJumper K390 SE ...

Re: ACT NOW WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! BBB 15V

I’m no expert on steel or serrations. But based on Larrin Thomas’ evaluation of 15V, I can’t help but wonder if the best serrations for 15V would be the less aggressive, rounded type as used on the Chaparral LW SE or the Caribbean. Just a thought…

I have a few MagnaCut knives now, but I have no plans for new ones...at this time. The only Salt knife I currently want uses LC200N.

Re: ACT NOW WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! BBB 15V

Happy for you, I only wish that was a model I really like, no faulting the knife I just prefer the Sage in that size area.

I like the Sage a lot; I have two. While the Native 5 has become my favorite in that size class, I'll be the first to agree they are not as beautifully finished as a Sage ...

Re: ACT NOW WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! BBB 15V

I just found a super deal on a Native 5 G10, 15V “blemished”. This will let me leave my brand new 15V Native in its box and use up the blemished one.

This is the best deal I’ve seen for a K390 LeafJumper, but it’s a Spyderedge, which apparently is less popular.

Today? Lately my 5th pocket EDC has been my newest Lil Native, a lockback G10 version with S30V and Spyderedge--and it was difficult to find, since it appears to have been discontinued. And for a larger knife, Native 5 Crucarta.

Re: Throwback Thursday Carry

Since I started buying Spydercos only about 5 years ago, I don't really have any discontinued Spyderco-branded knives, except for a K390 LeafJumper, which it is still available.

But I do have this: Byrd brand, Spyderco made, Sal Glesser designed, Raven 2. And this one, along with its little brother ...

Re: Detent - How weak is too weak?

No. It's definitely NOT foolproof, which is why I only occasionally do it, opting instead to carry backlocks or a Manix 2. I have one cross-bar lock (Kunwu Pulsar) that I sometimes carry. It has the optional stiff omega springs and acts much more like a Manix 2 than it does the Bugout I no longer ...

Re: Detent - How weak is too weak?

If you carry tip up and slide the knife all the way against the side of your pocket.... I'm not sure how the blade opens??? Even if it does, the side of your pocket will not let it open so far as to cut you, IMO.

Thanks for the great design, Sal.

Re: Bd1n = better version of 14c28n?

I have several knives made from 14C28N and a few with BD1N.
They feel similar when sharpening, smooth, easy, and both can easily be made razor sharp.
I don't notice any difference in rust resistance.
I can't tell a significant difference in edge retention, but if I had to choose one, probably BD1N ...

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

Where I live, there are exactly two Spyderco "retailers" within 1 ½ hours. The closest claims to be a Spyderco dealer, and they have Benchmades, Bucks, and other prominently displayed, but I have yet to see a single Spyderco. When I asked about Spydercos, all I got was a shrug. The other store is a ...
