Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

My problem with the Sharpmaker is that I'm having difficulty keeping the knife precisely vertical as I stroke the edge. I let a Chaparral SE get dull, then sharpened it with the Sharpmaker. It definitely was much sharper, but still not as sharp as factory. I examined the edge with a 10x hand lens ...

Re: MT46S MagnaMax SE Testing Thread

I'm not doing any formal testing, but I am using it for various things.

At this time of year, I often have many kilos of apples and pears I cannot use, cannot give away (not good enough condition), so I cut them up and give them to the local deer. In my experience, SE knives allow me to cut more ...

Re: Blade to Handle Efficiency?

Oops. Wrong keys...
Anyway, my favorite small knife for feel and to carry is a Lil Native. The blade is long enough, and the handle has near perfect length and thickness for me. My only objection is the blade stock thickness, which seems excessive for such a small knife. I've been carrying a ...

Re: Blade to Handle Efficiency?

On larger knives, I never needed or wanted a finger choil. But on small knives, I find them indispensable. In my hands, it gives me the opportunity to have a large enough handle for comfort and control, which is not an issue with a larger knife.

So I'm less concerned with handle/blade efficiency ...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

For various reasons I prefer to carry small knives all the time, while adding a larger knife when needed. For years I carried a Dragonfly 2 K390. Then I switched to a Lil Native because it was so much more comfortable in hand. But early this year, I tried a Chaparral SE. And in my pocket it stays ...

Re: A silly question about Sprint Runs

There aren't just sprint runs, check out exclusives; some are very cool. For those, you have to go to the distributor who carries them, and you can't get them from Spyderco.

For example, the last exclusive I bought was a Knife Center exclusive: a Kapara with burlap micarta scales and CPM S90V steel.

I used to shave with a straight razor. If you take your time AND pay attention, the shave is much better than with any of the modern, multi-blade throwaways.

Used a MagnaMax SE to slice a tired mattress into smaller pieces for easier disposal. It wasn’t fun, but it worked flawlessly. I really like the Spyderedge.

Re: Is Maxamet from Taiwan "better" than from USA?

Looks like people were prying with those. I assume it would snap by the hole because there is less material.

Someone would have to study the problem, but it looks to me as though there's a weak spot where the sharp plunge line crosses the Spydeyhole. This is no problem the vast majority of the ...

I have one exactly like it, and I have a K390 with a standard, leaf-shaped blade. They're both great.

I try not to buy Chinese products for all the reasons people have listed. On the other hand, I understand the need of Spyderco to have lower priced products.

At this point, I want to thank Spyderco for being upfront about where their products are made. The last thing I want is a stealth Chinese ...

Re: Golden Age of Supersteels Over???

Before moving within two miles of a saltwater shoreline, I didn't worry about corrosion. The only time I had corrosion on a knife was by leaving it out in the rain and forgetting it. But here? The rain is slightly acid, the salt spray invades the trails I walk, and rust is an ever-present issue. I ...

Lil native in magnacut if it ever comes
YES!! A Lil Native in Magnacut (a Salt?) would have thinner blade stock and should be about as slicey as a Chaparral, but with a thicker handle that fits my hands better. I'd take an LW or a G10 version, as long as it has the thin blade stock of the LW.

Re: MT46S MagnaMax SE Testing Thread

Okay. Due to an issue that has cropped up with my hands, I've been unable to do any serious testing. However, I did do some cardboard box processing. My previous favorite for this was my LeafJumper SE K390, a beast that cuts cardboard better and easier than any PE knife I've used. The MagnaMax SE ...

Now THAT is a usable leather sheath! The Spyderco sheath retains the knife very well, is well made, and can be hung from a belt. But I find it difficult to extract a knife with one hand. So I have a Boltaron sheath for use when I carry a Mule.

But your ...
