Hi Robin,

That's an interesting piece. Did you make that? Did you submit that to Peter?

sal
Yes, it is my third ever folder, and a design that I've been brewing for years in my head. I asked Peter to use the Spydiehole and submitted it to Eric in person at the Amsterdam Meet.

We've exchanged a few e-mails since then. Sent him some drawings 😀 and added a clip, small wire clip with 2 positions.

Robin has been hard at work making some incredible pieces! It would be an awesome story to see this come to fruition. Spyderco fan turned forumite turned knifemaker = colloboration!! :bug-red-white :bug-red-white :bug-red-white

:cheap-sunglasses Very cool design. That's really nice how you put the gimping on the harpoon bump. Seems obvious one you see it but not something I've ever seen before.

It's also a really neat mix of old style and new.

Thanks guys, one of my main goals in knifemaking is to be able to collborate with Spyderco. Since this is the knife brand that has the closest (if not same) "knife philosophy" to mine.

@JSumm The storyline is great :winking-tongue Did not even think about what it could be resumed as !

Thanks a lot Sal, I'm gonna keep drawing, but the Precision is something I'd like to keep and refine, it has a lot of features I love about a knife :grin-big eyes .

Thank you very much, I've always liked harpoons, but refused them because they filled no function. That's settled now :winking-tongue And I guess you can't keep the french outta me, I tried to make something following only design and functions features, but maybe it had to feel french in the end ? :thinking

Wow Robin, those are beautiful! I don’t know how I’ve missed you making these on the Off Topic section, but kudos to you. I love a harpoon tip (I like how they feel in some grips when carving wood) but only have fixed blades with them thus far.

Without getting too much hate, I do not have a design. I Have an existing knife I retired that honestly became a ghost- Only because it wasn’t built with the intention to last. Sal has several big knives that fit the bill, and have 2-3 aspects of the knife I’m gonna show, just not this package. Closest knife that feels as good in the hand is the resilience, finger grips are like a Shaman (my main attraction to them) and the stretch 2 has a lot of elements too. And Goddards are the lightness I’m looking for … See my OCD problem?? 🤣

I understand I can get any of my current spydercos customized to be like this knife, but Vivi made a thread.

The reason I would want this knife (again) is:
Light
Thin blade geometry
Thin blade stock in general
Some kind of abs plastic handles- one liner
Jimping on the blade
Hoping a 440a steel..

Frost Cutlery Humvee Tracker folder isn’t around anymore or offering this model.
-Tan FRN handles with one skeletonized lcn200 spacer
-Grips designed like the Tire tread on the blade
-Riveted instead of screws (why I dislike this knife)
-The Goddard old school Pocket clip
-Lcn200 blade .11” blade stock and the grind narrows down to about .005” behind the edge
Maybe some jimping on the top of the spine like a manix 2LW.

If Vivi was serious, I’d mail this into Colorado in a heartbeat. The dealbreaker of course is the humvee image had to be laser etched into the new knife

Can take the ninja out from the mall, but not the mall from the ninja 😅

I tried to design a new Spyderco to fit my specific needs, but all I kept coming with was a Native 5.

Thanks for the great design, Sal.
Oldest: 1974 Buck 110.
Newest: Native 5, G10, CPM 15V
Knives owned: Too many, yet always finding another.
Added a ceramic mug, "The Edge is a Ghost". Great mug!

I have my dream knives, many of which have been tossed around here before like a back lock Caribbean or a salt Endela.

Alien "Xenomorph" concept (Dragonfly 2)

So, I'm a fan of the Alien series. I like Isolation a lot as well, probably more so than the movies.
Recently I showed my new Dragonfly to my cousin and he made an interesting comment that it's name and design resemble a space ship. Yeah.
But that kinda got me thinking. While it doesn't resemble a space ship imo, it does resemble a xenomorph from the Alien franchise! All it needed was a tweak to the FRN texture.

So I made a sketch in a text book and when I was satisfied, I used AI (yeah, yeah) to make it look like a real thing and I must say I like the way it looks.

Do you guys like it?

(I'm secretly hoping Spyderco will find this idea cool and make a collab model)

Thanks for the great design, Sal.
This has been my issue for years. Tried to draw the best knife ever IMO and it looked way too much like a Native 5 ! 😁

But, if you keep drawing, one day you'll draw something similar but different. Because the Native came out of one mind, and it wasn't ours. With enough self research, we should all find a different answer to the "perfect knife", since we're all different.

Hi Turbolqk,

Welcome to our forum.

Our FRN handles have bi-directional texture, which is functional.

Hi, thanks for your reply!

I'll try and figure out a version of the design that has the bi-directional functionality as well.

I'm agree with you. In fact I would like more straight cutting edge and a shorter belly. I didn't manage to do it with my image generator. More like an "Opinel shape".
