+1 for Silky's handle designs (replaceable rubber).
I also think their saw sheath designs are simple, probably low cost, and effective.
With them being based in Japan (like H2...) and in the commercial/serious consumer saw/big knife market i wonder if a collaboration is in order?

Re: Chaparral SE edge damage
Same as Evil D .
Only difference- when I resharpened with 15deg on grind side/as shallow as possible on the non-grind side I had edge damage again.
When I resharpened with 15deg on grind side/15deg on the non-grind side the problems went away. Not sure if this was bc of the angle change or ...

Re: Screw Sizes / please post if you have them !
Centofante 3 FRN CQI Screws
Body- M1.4 x 0.3mm thread. I used 4mm thread length and it worked fine. Goofy size, especially the factory T5 torx button head. Ended up getting allen socket head screws from mcmaster
Note- the cruwear carbon fiber distributor exclusive has different body screw sizing.

Re: Where the Heck Are the Lil' Native Lightweights?
I agree there are similarities with the chaparral FRN and this model. But... enough differences that could help tip the scales one way or the other. Blade length under 2.5in is the biggest, if that matter, and humpless design.
I have both (chappie SE) and I'll be keeping both.
For the.... nerds ...

Re: Where the Heck Are the Lil' Native Lightweights?
cjk here you go. I received my lil native LW a few days ago. It had a little squeak on closing so that was all the reason I needed to take it apart and check it out.
I'm not a good photographer but figured this is better than nothing.

Re: The Stretch 2XL "Experiment"
I have a VG-10 Stretch 2XL. Blade length is more than I need for EDC but it has been my go to hunting/hiking folder.
Don't miss the liners. The lack of weight for its size is remarkable. No noticeable lock rock. No complaints!

Maxamet is a Carpenter steel, not Crucible. My understanding is that it should not be lost as a result of the Crucible bankruptcy.

Re: The serrated Chaparral is pretty cool
Up to now I tried to match the 15 degree angle of the main serrations. So a 20° microbevel ist the way to go?
I like to take every knife from a factory edge and use it and see what happens. If I start seeing edge damage on typical use then I'll start using the 15 degree slots on both sides ...

Re: New brown rod grit/process/or something?
Oh certainly from a straight economics perspective its hard to justify the lapping adventure. But..... this a knife forum haha! Logic and reason don't always take the front seat.
I haven't lapped sharpmaker rods but have done it with the medium and fine benchstones with loose coarse SiC. It made a ...

Re: New brown rod grit/process/or something?
Any idea if some type if sandpaper would work, instead of ordering the silicon carbide powder?
I think best shot would be with coarse grit (120 or less) sandpaper that uses SiC as the abrasive. I don't think AlOx sandpaper would do much of anything.
Key would be to still have a very flat ...

Had been carrying the FRN screw together centofante for the vast majority of the last 2 months. Enjoyed the design so decided to get the cruwear version.

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.
Just stopping by to say WOW- Chap SE lives up to the hype. It's my 3rd SE folder (tenacious and pac salt h2) and out of the box this thing is a slicer.
With the pac salt and tenacious I saw the benefit of SE for plant matter but I struggled to get them tuned up to my satisfaction for edc/general ...

Re: Has Anybody Ever Worn Out a Compression Lock?
If a detent ball were to wear down I can confirm they are pretty straightforward to replace. I've done two- a tenacious and a para 3 lw. Both had soft detents so I figured why not. It fixed the issue both times. Of course.... warranty probably out the window if you do it.

Re: Coming Soon the New Spyderco.com
Logged onto the new Spyderco website at 10:03 looking for the new Mule Team Magnamax and 19C27. It says both are sold out, but they weren't available when the site closed down last week. Could they possibly have sold out in 3 minutes, or is this an error?
