Re: The Endura

Endura in main pocket, dfly in 5th pocket. About all I carry now. Love the M4 variant once I dyed the scales darker. Excellent design that I immediately “got” as soon as I held it. Would love a variant with a Delica blade thickness.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..

I’ve had luck with the recipes on their website. Pick a shade you like and dial back the recipe by volume. You can pick the objects you are dying and get an appropriate volume recipe. I most recently used “sunglasses” and the amount was great for endura scales in a glass mason jar.

Re: Ready for an Endura

I’ve used k390 in several other models and also have the M4 Endura. Really enjoy both steels and the differences I’ve noticed aren’t large enough to separate them out functionally, at least for my uses. Rit dyed the M4 a nice forest green. If you can stand the mint color or are ok dying it (it’s ...

Re: Orange you glad I asked?

Rit dye website has recipes galore for all sorts of hues. I used it to get a nice Forrest green for my originally mint green M4 endura. Came out quite close to what was advertised.

Still in stock. Rit dye is your friend. I’m still enjoying the factory bevel, plan to reprofile soon.

Re: Thumb ramp or naw?

In general, I prefer ramps, but find choils limiting. This leads to conflicts.

Military family: ramp is too steep when using the choil. Thumb too cramped. Ramp/ergos perfect when gripping behind the choil, but edge much too far from my hand than I wish.

Manix: Less of above, as ramp is less steep ...

Re: Just a pocket knife

IMG_3022.jpegDoc Dan you’ve inspired me to give my Dragonfly a chance clipless. 👍🏼

Clipless is the best type of Dfly. Only my salt I keep the clip on for a life vest. All others ride clipless in the pocket. Too light to notice. Easy to index correctly when grabbing to pull out in the right ...

Re: Endura M4

If I had known this was coming, wouldn’t have gotten the Manix LW last March. My first Rit dye job and it came out a much more tolerable shade. And have come to really like the steel.

This is my favorite model, so probably won’t be able to resist. Still have the dye waiting.

Re: Problem: Uneven Grinds (MINE not Spyderco's)

I imagine if you play around with different non-perpendicular variations in positioning you can split the difference and even things out. Would still likely be a wider bevel at the extremes of the stone’s reach from the center of the clamp, but you could minimize it as much as possible, and maybe it ...

Re: RIT dyeing Salts

I recently did the M4 Manix mint green variant. Pinned construction, so can’t take apart. Removed the clip and otherwise tried my best to keep the blade out of the bath. No problems. The dye will settle to the steel a bit but you can easily wipe/brush it off. Just rinse it well with hot to cold tap ...

Back and forth between the Seki/military style full thumb ramp and the leaf blade half ramp. But the no ramp? Naw, for me.

I keep coming back to look at this picture about twice a week. This is really, really, really a nice green! :smlling-eyes

Agreed. For me personally much prettier than the mint.

3:1 ratio of peacock green to graphite and came out somewhere between forest green and olive. Looking forward to getting to know this model more.

Re: Blade HQ Mint Green M4 Manix LW

Several weeks into this one and I am still liking it. Impressed with the M4. Haven't yet done a ton of cutting but the factory edge still impresses me. We'll see when it needs touching up. Going hiking on Thursday, it will be my pocket companion.

Awesome. Please report back!

I’m intending to ...

Re: Blade HQ Mint Green M4 Manix LW

That is what I would do. Or suspend it in someway if you want a darker color and it will be bathing for longer. I believe some directions call for adding salt and or vinegar. I skip that part. I do add a tad bit of Dawn Dish soap. That allows the water to penetrate a little better into the ...

How does one Rit dye a pinned knife with tool steel? Hold it by the blade while dunking it and get it dry as quickly as possible? Bad idea?
