I retired from the Coast Guard 20 years ago last month and while I was always a knife guy I can't say I was a knife nerd. Shipboard carry for me was a Spyderco Rescue and I bought it because it was serrated, Orange, and called Rescue.
Now that I overthink stuff I carry a Para3 and stay away from ...

Re: Is Maxamet from Taiwan better than from USA?
Those pictures had me nervous about carrying my Maxamet Para3 for the longest time. Finally said to heck with it, if it can't handle use then why have it. I've been using it for a while now and it's been just great. I don't treat it like crap or anything, just like a knife and I like it a lot.

Re: China
I have zero issues with a line of knives being manufactured in China. In the end, Spyderco is responsible for the specifications and quality control. As long as the product is clearly marked as to country of manufacture then we have no problem. I'd love to see more european manufacturers if that's ...

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
I really like the compression lock although I've never had any issues with a mid or back lock either. Getting it open and keeping it open has always been more important than getting it closed.

Re: Spyderco service really this bad
That's really interesting because about two years ago I did the exact same thing. I sent the knife in with a letter explaining that I knew I had screwed up and was willing to pay for it if they'd give me a call or email with the cost. Instead I got the knife back in better condition than I had sent ...

In reality, my Maxamet is probably tougher than I actually need and it's supposed to be weak.

Crucarta Para 3
So theoretically I'm looking for the toughest Para3. I have 4 other Para3's in S110v, s45Vn, Maxamet and Magnacut and just love the platform so I'm looking for my next one. As I understand it Cruwear is the "Toughest" steel available in the Para3 and a higher degree sharpening angle will give me a ...

Re: Para 3 LW handle va Para 3 G10 handle
I have both and prefer the G10. I actually took the Magnacut blade from the FRN Salt and put it in G10 to get the Para3 I wanted. After putting the S45N blade in the FRN I started using it for a truck knife and wouldn't you know it, I really like it. Honestly both have strong plusses and you have to ...

Re: Para 3 Lightweight Salt first impressions
My Para3 Salt was perfectly centered from the factory. I switched the blade to S45VN and that blade also centers. It's been a great knife and the Para3 is my flat out favorite Spyderco. I have 5 now and the wife has discussed an intervention.

Re: Reaching for the same knives
I'm up to 5 Para 3's (Selling one with another on order) and tend to just carry one of those along with a Swiss Army Knife. Lot's of other knives to choose from but the Para 3 just fits me. I carry a SAK because I can pull it out in any company and nobody loses their mind over it and it's nice to ...

Re: Just the tip?
I’ve only broken the tip off of one knife in over 50 years of carrying one. Thankfully it was not a Spyderco and better yet that company replaced the blade for a small fee and I have it to this day.

Re: Easiest Sharpening Spyderco Steel
I bought a Sharpmaker with the two standard sets of rods. For now that’s what I’m staying with I have access to the full diamond Wicked Edge system but not planning to make use of that unless I really need a lot of work. Would like some stones in the future.

Re: Easiest Sharpening Spyderco Steel
So I ended up on two ends of the spectrum. Deadbox Hero made me feel challenged so I ordered a Maxamet and one steel that kept popping up was BD1n so I ordered that too. Both in Para3 so now I’ll have 5 ( I think I have a problem) the BD1n will be the first black blade though so that’s kinda ...

Re: Potential Tariffs & Golden, CO.
So this isn’t directed at Spyderco because I have zero idea how Sal and Eric choose to run their business as it is indeed “their” business. We live in a truly global economy where parts and assemblies in manufacturing are sourced all over. That concept affects a companies entire product line for the ...

Magnacut Unsalted
A few weeks back I was lucky enough to pick up my Para3 Salt in Magnacut and I just couldn’t help wanting this steel in a plain black G10 package. Having an S45vn in plain black G10 I thought even a novice like me could make the swap. Nice little project and I got what I wanted. Voided warranty on ...
