The 46% off and free shipping was about building a customer base. Its no surprise they are lowering the discount. They still have the best average discount on Spyderco Knives and have gotten a large following because of it.

Even with the slight increases, they still have some of the best prices out there and the service is top notch. If the increase offends someone, simply shop elsewhere.

I noticed the prices went up a little. About a month ago I wanted to buy one item and the cost was less than normal shipping. I had forgotten about the nutnfancy shipping coupon. I emailed Jeff about possible lowering shipping on very small orders. Not eliminating it, just lowering it. He replied back with the nutnfancy code to eliminate it altogether. Believing he would loose money by shipping me my $7 item I added another item to the order. I was very impressed (and moved) that he would be willing to loose money on an order I went ahead and added the second item hoping the profit would be back in black for him. I don't know of any other vendor or company that has ever done that for me. I'm not special, I believe he would have done that for any repeat customer. In his email reply he did mention that of late he had been loosing money on shipping. He didn't say why but I'm sure it's the nutnfance code. His shipping is normally high enough to cover shipping plus insurance.

So, even though his prices have gone up a little I'll stick with someone who helps his customers like he did me. Oh yeah, it's not the first time he has helped me with an out of the ordinary request I'd made. Another thing, the nutnfancy code works on everything, not just Spyderco products. The $7 item I mentioned and the second item I added were not Spyderco products.

Throw in the fact that he has free shipping with the nutnfancy code and you still think that?

The slight increase is probably due to the fact that the cost of EVERYTHING has gone up if you haven't noticed. Shipping, Shipping materials, Taxes, you name it. Jeff doesn't have the rite to raise his prices like every other market?

I suspect that the free shipping code is taking a chunk of his profit. It was probably no big deal when it first came out because not many knew about it. Now we all use it for everything.

I suspect you know nothing about economics.

x2, he has always responded to my inquiries in short order.

Adding to the service aspect; I recently ordered a new knife that had been on my wish list since day one of discovering Spyderco knives.

This was the most I have paid for a knife to date, so I kindly requested a QC check before it shipped out. I placed my order last Friday afternoon and received it Tuesday morning (insanely quick shipping, yet another reason to love CS). Upon opening the shipping box I was greeted with a note written on the back of one of his cards and banded to the Spyderco box.

It may seem frivolous to some, but that small gesture speaks volumes about the kind of business that Jeff operates.

Jacknifeh , that is considerate and in my opinion everyone should follow that example. If you don't want to see price increases further.

It is a good store but there are others that are just as worthy of the praise. I have had a few problems but will still buy from them if they have what I am looking for. I ordered close to a grand worth of kitchen knives and almost a year later I was finally told he wouldn't be able to get them for me. I didn't bother him much and sent an email every couple months and many of them went unanswered. I don't know if he forgot about them or what happened but I never got my knife set which is disappointing and the money was spent long ago now. When I first inquired about them he contacted the manufacturers sales rep and the ones I wanted were all in stock. Pretty disappointing.

jabba359 wrote:I can't believe those complaining. The only other place that consistently comes close to CS prices is Howes and SpydercoVT. Even with CS's discount changing from 46% to 44%, that beats the usual 38% discount from KW, NGK, or GPK and certainly beats KC's usual 36%. The extra couple of bucks more still makes him one of, if not still the absolute, cheapest yet reliable places to get Spydies.
Exactly my reaction as well. Even with the increase of $4-6 per knife, they still have the lowest prices around and, of course, top-notch customer service.

If $4-6 is truly a make-or-break difference for some folks, then perhaps those people should be seriously reevaluating their financial situation and spending choices instead of buying $100-200 (street price) knives in the first place.

The attack on my intelligence is unnecessary and unwarranted, thank you, so you can keep the haughty, holier-than-thou attitude to yourself.

Maybe I don't know as much as you but I know enough that in today's tough and turbulent economy every dollar matters to people.

I think that Cutlery Shoppe prices are still better than prices at most of the dealers.

I ordered a Schempp Rock from CS. My card was charged but the knife didn't ship right away. I emailed Jeff -- he profusely apologized, let me know they had an inventory issue and told me the knife would ship the following week. He also said he would throw in a little something extra for my trouble.

The box arrived the following week. Inside was my Rock at a great price AND a black spyderco rescue for my "trouble"

CS is top notch plan and simple.

I buy from all different vendors. Whoever has it in stock and for a decent price gets the sale.

I hear great things about Jeff and have enjoyed shopping with him in the past. He doesnt celebrate holidays at my house though. :p It still comes down to money in the end. Hopefully prices are still competitive.

I've done a LOT of business with Jeff at Cutlery Shoppe. A LOT. And there's a reason I keep going back. Service. Plain and simple. A few bucks difference here or there is inconsequential to me. I can't recommend Jeff and CS more highly.

Even if Cutleryshoppe didn't have better prices than just about anyone else, I would still buy from them. The customer service is second to none, and Jeff has gone far beyond what I would consider good business practice to take care of one of my orders.

I agree with what you are saying, if fact last year at Thanksgiving Jeff and I were talking about shipping costs and inventory. (Sorry couldn't resist) ;)

I've said it a number of times, Jeff has the best prices on the knives I want. The service I've gotten from him, responses to emails, QC checks, fast shipping all make me a repeat customer.
