I just make a point of not pressing down hard on the knife. A sharp knife should cut through steak with hardly any force. :)jackknifeh wrote:If you are going to use a knife on hard plates (like when eating) just take the razor edge and gently slide the edge along a ceramic steel or something to "take the edge off". Keep the knife at a 90 deg. angle with the steel. It dulls the edge just enough to not "roll" but it is sharp enough to cut your steak. I've done that with steak knives after sharpening them. That way they are perfect for their purpose even if they won't shave. You only need to "take the edge off" the portion of the blade that will touch the plate.

I've contemplated getting one of these but haven't. Personal folding steak knives to take to resturants. I think this was discussed here a little while back.waco kid wrote:I just make a point of not pressing down hard on the knife. A sharp knife should cut through steak with hardly any force. :)

I've thought about using my own knife when they provide a steak knife that is only slightly sharper than the butter knife.jackknifeh wrote:I've contemplated getting one of these but haven't. Whew, no grizzle bears but there were some eggs in there that if they would have hatched into chickens I would have had a fight on my hands. Cracked the eggs, added heat and cheese and I'm good for a couple of hours. :o :)
Jack
PS edit: I did have one battle on my hands I forgot about. It was horrible. My grandson got the majority of the breakfast. That's ok I guess. :D

So I decided to make this video with my G10 Dfly. :)
Hope you guys enjoy! Cheers. All comments welcome.

OK, so Tomoto has given us a ready made answer to the age old question, why do you carry a knife ... please refer to the follow video.
So, I need a answer the question that I got today ... "Jim, I count 3 knives just on your right side. Why?". So, how do I explain that I feel the need to 3-4-5 knives on or near me?? Or ... Do I need to explain this to the group here as well :D

I have a serious problem with flapping pockets, so I need knives to keep them from flapping.
If I'm having a bad day, I'll usually add, "like your mouth over someone else's business".
PS: I know, I'm an asshat.

That's easy, you carry the 3 knives on your right side... to balance the 3 knives on your left side! :)So, I need a answer the question that I got today ... "Jim, I count 3 knives just on your right side. Why?". So, how do I explain that I feel the need to 3-4-5 knives on or near me??
I normally have 3-5 (unless I'm trying to impress my nephews, then I'll have 3-5 POUNDS of knives :) ) but don't tend to pull out more than a ladybug while at work, some of those people frighten waaaay to easily. Someone brought a watermelon for the company potluck once but forgot something to cut it with. I didn't bother to offer my knives, even a Caly 3 is inadequate for reaching through a watermelon, I let them run out and grab a kitchen knife from somewhere.
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
As I alluded earlier, I think some people ask this question as a rhetorical request for justification of legitimate and legal action.chuck_roxas45 wrote:I have a serious problem with flapping pockets, so I need knives to keep them from flapping.

I had someone (a friendly co-worker) ask me a variant of this question. He asked why I carry two knives every day (I actually often carry more, but he was not aware of the others).
I demanded that he pull out his wallet and show me the contents. He had several $100 bills in it. I recounted that pay-day was over a week ago (so it was not like he was between cashing the check and burying the jar in his back yard...so he must be carrying these bills daily). I further quizzed him with regard to what he had purchased in the last few days, and what he intends to purchase in the next few days (past and expected future purchases amounted to a small fractions of the amount he was carrying). I then grilled him, "WHY do you need all that money"?
He got pretty tired of the lengthy intrusion, but then another co-worker suggested he buy a knife to carry for defense if he was going to carry all that cash around...
It may have seemed like an asshat move to make someone explain and defend their choice to carry more money than they need...but to me it seemed like a measured and properly scaled response to his request.
:D

Yeh, agreed but then you have way more patience than me. :D

Agreed that it was asshat-esque, or agreed that it was an appropriately scaled response? Or both? :Dchuck_roxas45 wrote:Yeh, agreed but then you have way more patience than me. :D
I have great patience with my friends. I would probably just walk away from the question from a non-friend.

But then most of my friends carry knives so I don't have to put up with questions like this from them.
