Sal: You are making me Sal-ivate talking about the Native 5. Ok, lame, but I'm really looking forward to this knife. Any word on when it will be released?

BTW, When they are available, I'll take two :)

I got the catalog and the Native G-10 looks awesome!! I can't wait to get my hands on one. I find myself straying away from other knife companies and turning to Spyderco more and more.

fyi the native 5 is up for p/o at 2 places so far so maybe that is indicative of it being released sometime soon.
the dealers where given specs, pricing, pics, etc to start to prepare for it in those packets or sheets or whatever they get. that guy jess (spyguys, crook, went mia) showed them in his vidz i think. never seen one myslef though. ME? I WANT THE BRITISH ORANGE SLIP_IT NATIVE LIKE AIR!

I would still kill for a Native 4 if I could find one.

I am interested to see how the steel on the 5 performs.

My Native 1 in SS is still one of my most loved knives.

I hope Spyderco doesn't discontinue the FRN Native 4, because that knife is known for the quality but most importantly for its price, and i don't think the new native will cost less then 130-140 bucks...

What is this FRN Native 4 of which you speak? The only Native 4 I have seen had a carbon fiber handle.

Wait...it's 2 7/8'? Illinois legal? This suddenly got more interesting for me, price pending. I've always admired how solid and work-hungry the Native seemed, but it being a hair over our supposed legal limit always talked me down from ever investing. This...is going to be a long internal battle for me. May as well wait for an FRN version to save money, G10 is like a tuxedo and top hat to me.

I didnt even realize Sal had changed the blade length on the Native 5. Thats good news for me. Unless you live in Chicago I think 3.5" is ok for most of the suburbs. Chicago is pretty ridiculous and I seriously almost got shot when an officer saw my Spyderco pocket clip. Thank goodness it was a Dfly...

The state law indeed doesn't actually state any blade limit, only that it is illegal to carry a knife over 3" with intent to use in a crime. Just as vague as it sounds, to be charged for it you have to be convicted of the intent to commit a crime while carrying said knife. I shrug and keep it under 3" to avoid misinterpretation, larger knives seem to fly in the suburbs without incident as the law is too vague to be cited casually. Chicago does enforce a 2.5'' limit.

The Native is simply a strong design, probably out of my price range but the slightly smaller blade length will legalize it in more areas. Eager to see how it catches on.

Mr Blonde wrote:Spyderco has been working on a new Native for quite some time. You could also say they never stopped working on the Native design. However, the Native 4 was a nice upgrade, including CF scales, but this fifth version seems beefier and more soldid in the hand. One design goal in this knife was to get the best possible back-lock with the closest and reliable tolerances.
Haven't seen anything other than that about though.

lychesko,

Welcome to the Forum.

Sal mentioned once that he expected Native5 Ti fluted by the end of the year / beginning of 2012. Will be limited production about 50 pieces monthly. I am not sure about price, but I would expect street price in US to be about the same as Ti Fluted Military.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian
