Jason,
Welcome to the Forum.
I do not have answers for you, but we are on the the same boat. Few guys already got 2011 catalogs, so they can get good estimate. Date is much more complicated

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Thanks!

No price yet that I know of...It's estimated to be coming out in "late summer", so it'll be a while yet.

I'm actually happy the Native 5 is coming out later in the year. I now have plenty of time to save up for it. :D

I haven't heard anything, but I'd bet a pile that some more info about this potential model will show up at the Amsterdam meet in March--I hope Mr. Blond is able and willing to do for us this year what he did last year--his website was my go-to dream book for months and months.

There is a photo and details of it in the 2011 catalog. Looks nice!

Spyderco usually doesn't issue that information. Your best bet is to keep an eye out here and on this forum. :D

I stopped by SFO last week and specifically asked about the Native5, but they didn't have any new info on it. It's really piqued my interest.

Same here--there are already several models I'm already on pre-order lists or waiting for for the first half of 2011 anyway--Para 2 and Millie Carpenter steel sprint runs and Chaparral. Plus any of the other much-anticipated 2011 releases that might show up with no warning (Spyderco has a way of doing that...you never know if a sprint or new model you thought was 6 months or a year away will be announced in the product forum and ship out!). If the Native came in the spring or something, I would probably be too broke for it.

We just tested what we believe will be the final test pilot.

Please pardon my shameless marketing, but I must say that I am very pleased with the results of this 2 year R&D effort..

It's easy and smooth to open and close. Reliability tested in numerous tests was exceptional. Lock strength was well into our "Very-Heavy-Duty" rating (MBC). Self close was positive and secure from more than an inch open.

The 3mm thick, wide full flat ground CPM-X35VN blade will provide good cutting power and edge retention. Jimping on rear of spine and finger choil provide for secure grip. 4 way hourglass clip serves all preferences. 2-7/8" overall blade length is legal in most jurisdictions.

I will gladly compare this rendition of the mid-lock-back with any lock-back of any version made by any manufacturer anywhere in the world.

There will no doubt be variations in handle materials and steel types of this 5th generation model in the future.

Ok thanks! It wouldn't be a Native without a swedge grind. Any info on handle material on the first run?

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a great knife. I will definitely have to try one.
