Tactical Mistakes that I Made in a SD Situation

the story about the LEO above reminded me of this one Doc. now this was all in training but the lesson is still valid. i was in the police academy and they had set up a bar scene with about 4-5 cameras in there to tape what happened. the teachers were playing the drunks in the crowd and the bartenders as well as the perp. the story was some guy in the bathroom now, was exposing himself to the patrons. we have 4-5 drunks trying to talk to us, mid you we don't know who is going to do something because we know something is going to happen. the guy walks out of the bathroom with a gun. they say i had the quickest reaction time but i didn't yell out "GUN" for my partners (there were 4 of us total). as he turned towards us with the gun i shot 3 times and then had a jam (they set it up that way) i cleared it and shot one more time. i think some of my classmates took some shots off too. well now all **** breaks loose. some drunks are leaving (witnesses and we need them) so one cop goes after them. the other blocks the door. we try getting everyone calm when all of a sudden the perp gets up. the video shows me trying to shoot but i have no more bullets (no more magazines either) and then it shows my partner :rolleyes: hiding behind me and firing over my shoulder. moral of the story CUFF him even if you think he is dead. like i said, this was just a training situation but it might help someone reading it down the road. stay safe everyone!

Yeah that was an internet hoax back in like 2006...The incident I'm referring to happening in the late 80's early 90's. The county police were on alert for this type of gang behavior, there were no fatalities as I can recall, but people were being beaten in their driveways in this method. And there was also driveway robberies taken place...and if the take wasn't big enough, they would force the people into their homes in search of more valuables...Can't speak for Georgia or any other state, but the gang members here usually beat on their own for initiation, but this was like a test for them after initiation....and was going on for a short while....and nobody was murdered...Doc :D

I live and grew up in the sticks. Not sure what the gangs are like in Atlanta, but they tend not to wander out here too much. I mean, yeah, we supposedly have a gang or two that live in the area, but they're more like meth addicts with nothing better to do. They just hang out and steal from one another.

Well Jeff seems like though you made some mistakes...the tequila was not one of them....it probably softened the blows from your attacking intruders....Doc :D

Tony..you gotta love those training exercises..reminded me of a few we had in the academy....love those shoot don't shoot exercises....You are right about cuffing and god help you if you do it in the front...LOL....I got quite a funny story about cuffing that doesn't really relate to anything here but funny nonetheless. When I was working as a U.S.Special Agent in a Fugitive Recovery capacity, my team and I went after a Bail Jumper who skipped, for DWI conviction, so we locate this guy at his mother's house and arrest him on the porch, I cuff him (no problems at all) I then enter the residence with one member of my team and leave my main partner and co-owner of the agency behind to stay with the prisoner. We do a room clearing and all is safe inside the house. We come back outside and there stands my partner with my cuffs dangling in his hands...I was like where's the guy?! So my partner says.."Ummmm....Ahhh.... I let him go...he started to cry....I can't arrest a grown man who starts to cry"....the bail money wasn't that much so I couldn't get all that mad and my partner, may he rest in peace always had my back
I says to him..."Next time you clear the house and I'll watch the jumper...OK!.......Crying doesn't work with me!.....LOL...Doc :D
