2010 catalog released!! Download it now on the main page under the downloads section.

Updates to thread initial post on the 12/28 to come.

*FRN ukpk/uspk (leaf, drop point, rescue) in hollow ground gin1 at a budget price

*manix 2 in foliage green and a new Carpenter steel - sprint

*zowada sprint in vg10

*and maybe more as my mental PDF is not loading :)

Ps: remember this thread tracks rumors and concepts further than 2010 and can definitely miss stuff. It's fun gossip but not exactly gospel =p

happy holidays!

Other pre-holiday updates:

The bad: Bushcraft pulled for the time being due to cracking with wood. Plans for model not released yet. Will add link and change initial post on 12/28.

The good: the thread continues with Perrin folder as Sal adds to current thread. Moving forward with production. Tip up only. Plans of 3", s30v, g10 on steel if memory serves. Check the link for exacts :)

Matriarch Sprint - Concept

"We think we can do a sprint Matriarch using VG-10 and another color, but it would be the original tooling. Fitting a Matriarch blade into the "4" version requires new engineering and tooling. that time would be better spent on an new model.

Thanks to Cougar337 and Knifecenter's blog:

http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showpost ... stcount=14

"Spyderco has a modest offering for 2010. There will be a larger version of the Honeybee and Bug called the Grasshopper. Second half of the year there will be a large leaf blade folder in a Super Hawk frame. The Matriarch – a smaller Civilian style folder- will return as a sprint run with a Zytel brown handle with 800 only offered in each of plain and serrated. They will have the Endura and the Delica released with a variety of handle colors including green, purple, blue, gray, red and brown, and the grind will be fully flat. They will also offer the UK pen knife as a lightweight model also in a variety of colors and two blade styles. There will be a fully serrated sheepsfoot rescue model. Also a titanium and a carbon fiber offering. The Bifold will come out and will be treated as an auto. The blue Manix that will be coming with the flat ground S30V blade and skeletonized liners that greatly reduce the weight. It will have a heftier price tag as well. A sprint run of a Tim Zoada will be coming with VG10 steel, 4220 MSRP, carbon fiber handle, double liners and 1200 pieces. Jason Breendon designed folder with a very off Pterodactyl looking blade with a 1″ section on top of the blade that looks like it should be sharpened, but isn’t and a slightly curved cutting edge almost Ulu style. Very odd! VG10 steel and shipping mid year. An extra large Lum Chinese folder with a “peel ply” carbon fiber handle which has a very smooth finish and VG10 steel blades. These are being made in Japan."

I hope this thread isn't dead yet. Something I still don't get is the love so many people seem to have for small folders. The extra weight and cost for a bigger folder, which is so much more capable in an emergency, is usually not that significant. I blame you small knife lovers for leading Spyderco astray down the small folder path. Case in point; I have the large Schemp Persian [ great knife] which has been dropped in favour of the small Persian. I've also been deprived of owning the large original Manix because it was dropped in favour of the small Manix, which to my amazement, seems to be wildly popular. What's wrong with you guys? [and I'm only partly kidding]

In any case I love the idea of a 5" Fred Perrin. I read on another forum that Spyderco is thinking of offering a folder somewhere in the 4.5" to 5" blade length. Oh please, says it's true!

You will be sad to hear that a few Persian fans have influenced Sal to look at doing another sprint of the original. Same style but different handle materials.

:)

There are a few big models in the works mentioned in the thread above. They still make the Police in G10 and FFG which has a 4.5" blade and doesn't carry like something Conan The Barbarian would own.
