I originally looked at the poll and immediately thought about orange, but then I thought about it a little and I think translucent would be much cooler, especially on a big knife like the Manix. I wouldn't mind buy a more subdued forum knife myself, and I think it would really class up the Manix. A uncaged Ball Lock would be awesome too, that combined with the translucent scales would be a winner I think.

"This poll is to select the color of G-10 to go on the Manix 2 forum knife. I have eliminated the two most common colors: black and foliage green; also blue since it just came out in a sprint run."

A sprint run manix 2 in blue ? Tell me more, I have not seen this one yet.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but I think that as we proceed here it may be in our best interest to seek some approval from the Spyderco crew. While we have "decided" that the manix 2 is the most popular choice, we have no confirmation that I'm aware of that this is okay with Sal/Kristi.

Second, Sal has said in the past that the color red was reserved for trainers only. We may want to make sure that this is an option before including it in the vote. Sorry if I sound like a party pooper.

I voted Lil T green.

I vote translucent scales.I figure if they do lightening holes they will show through.I would think that would be kinda cool.I had a Swatch watch in the 80s that was translucent that I always thought was pretty cool.

Translucent is the one color which would make me not purchase one.

Agreed, what we select here won't be the definite color, and we won't even be sure that the Manix 2 in G10 is going to be the forum knife.

With that being said, I vote translucent green! It's a really bizarre color and I think it would look interesting on a Manix 2. I also wouldn't be opposed to burgundy red or lil' temp green.

I've tried to be careful with my language, but it is a good idea to clarify what we are doing here. As I see it, we are constantly expressing our desire for one thing or another on this forum. Sal gave us some encouragement to talk about what we would like in a 2010 forum knife and I thought that a series of polls might be a more useful method of expressing our opinions and coalescing around the group consensus. Sal seemed to be concerned about the knife being affordable and I think the comments and the sizable portion voting for an under $51 knife indicate that that concern is widespread, if not a majority opinion, so I've constrained the choices to keep the price down. At the end we will be offering what I believe will be a helpful expression of what we would like to be able to buy as the 2010 forum knife.

Your point about red is a good one and hopefully we will hear if that is viewed as a problem before we start the second round.

Even if I saw you as a "stick in the mud", I would forgive you for having the wisdom and clarity of vision to vote for Lil' Temp green.

I wouldn't carry a clear scaled knife. I can't think of what has been made out of clear plastic in the past to give me an opinion of poor quality when seeing clear plastic (probably lots of things). =\

I voted red-I really like the idea of translucent, but I'd rather it be unshaded (i.e. not green), which I'm not seeing as an actual available color for G10. I think the light green is interesting, but something that makes more sense on the leafstorm than the Manix.

In my opinion Lil Temp green is not dark green, BRG is dark green. If you could do BRG G-10 or even BRG FRN ontop of the Manix skeleton, that would be a nice looking knife.

I voted for yellow for The simple reason that it would be odd (in a good way) to have a yellow g10 scaled manix2 forum knife. But then again lil temp green would look great too. Suffice it to say I would buy one whatever color it turns out to be.

I confirmed with Melanie at Haperin that the G-10 on the Lil' Temp is called "Dark Green" by the people that make and sell it. BRG is something I really like as well and I wish that shade was available in G-10.

There are (photoshopped)pictures and a link to the item on Knifeworks in the Which 2010 forum knife? thread.

For round two, I'm thinking of having each finalist (guessing there will be 3 or 4) in the poll twice. The first set will be the standard, "I like this one best". The second set will be, "OMG, anything but this".

Each person would have to choose between using his/her vote as a +1 on a color or a -1 on a color.

Thoughts and other proposals?
