IMHO a clipped knife can be a gent's knife. The knife should not be carried by the clip in the front pocket, as it would sag the pants and a shiny clip would look horribly out of place in that location. However, clipped IWB behind a belt or on the inside pocket of a jacket, the clip becomes invisible to the eye. Hence, I prefer to carry Kopas, anything SFSW or even a Mini Persian as a Gent's knife. Of course, the Kiwi is a no brainer for a suit knife. With a clip in the right location, many other knives look great in a suit as well. :)

Paul, I was thinking about gentleman's knives for a while and this topic was brought up on BF several times, but for some reasons never here. Is Spyderco crowd too tactical? I saw few times SS Delica named gentleman's knife, which was little strange to me. My knife hobby, passion, obsession still fairly new for me and many things I do not know, but willing to learn.
When I started this thread, I was not looking for agreement, I was looking for opinions and knowledge of members of this forum. And this discussion changed my point of view on this topic, not a lot, but some.
I really appreciate everybody's input. I didn't expect that this thread will have that many posts. And I hope this is not end of this discussion.
Too tactical? I'd say no, but then again, I have never bought a knife thinking of the possible SD or other tactical uses. BUT Spyderco's are of a different breed, so maybe a SE gentleman's blade isn't too weird after all.

But then again, the idea of a gentleman's knife has been blurred long ago. Would this be a gentleman's knife even though it has a lock?
Case Copperlock

Or would this one be getting too close to a SAK?
Bartender's knife

Or is this one getting too tactical with one handed opening and a lock?
Russlock

And of course there is always the tactical looking:
Cheetah

Granted none of these have a clip and all have nice scales, but maybe the idea of a gentleman's knife is more a selection of a smaller nice looking knife and using it appropriately for the occasions that warrant it.

Both beautiful knives, gave one to my sone and he loves his. Thought The Volpe would be great but the blade release  as advertised "Chris Reeve style" is an ultimate insultate to the Chris Reeve Sebenza line. I will take apart the Volpe and enlarge/open up the current shallow offering, Other than the CHEAP wood tack-ons, it is a good knife, Full blade, robust grip.

Now I'm confused. The only descriptions I've ever seen of the Volpe that mention Mr Reeve have something along the lines of a "Chris Reeve style integral liner lock", which a frame lock is, and not mentioning anything about the Volpe being a Chris Reeve style knife. If you have any links on hand I'd like to see them.
