OK - In the latest edition of American Handgunner - it was announced that at shot show smith and wesson are bringing back a gaggle of classic wheelguns!!! the 1917 45, the lemon squeezer, the 1955 target, and a few others - even a snubby .44 special!! all have the locks, but otherwise look original based on the few photos provided by the mag. ( no gold anniversy things, ect.) - saints be praised :D
Really really really want a 6 inch 1917 - maybe ill be good enough in time for x mas

Heres my thing with the lock - no,I dont like them, but many states REQUIRE them if the manufacturer wants that handgun sold in the state. I live in such a state, and if smith didnt put the locks in, I would not have access to any Smith that wasnt grandfathered in. In addition, Ruger, Springfield armory, and glocks here all have the internal lock too. Not because the consumer or company want to put it in, but because the state mandates it.
Personally, I dont see the big deal. its the size of a screw hole, not overly noticable, and, in my experience only, does not interfere with the functioning of the firearm. Ive put many hundreds of 357 and 38 through my 620 with zero problems. Again, I dont like why its there, but the lock itself doesnt bother me.

I'm glad to see S&W doing well, but I really hate the look of the lock. It has no impact on the functioning of the revolver to me, but I just can't get over the ugly looking little thing over the cylinder latch. I wish they had just coughed up some cash to Taurus and then put them on the hammer. Went shooting today with my old S&W 17-3. Beautiful pistol, and no lock.
Really kills me as I love the S&W 1917. Oh well, don't have the cash now anyway.
