NOS Seki models on sale at Bento Box Shop

HAP40 Endura and Delica - $124
HAP40 Dragonfly - $99
VG-10 Stretch 1 - $108
Dang, I'd like more Rex 45 (HAP40) but those prices are too steep.
Plus an additional $15 they charge for shipping.

I won that knife. It's a hefty bit of kit.
A BFK if there ever was one.
(A Big Folding Knife. What were you thinking?)

The bidding technique I use on eBay is as follows:
1. How much am I willing to bid?
2. Now get serious, how upset would I be if I was outbid?
3. Without remorse, at what price would I really be willing to let it go?
4. Then I bid that price and forget about it.

In this case the opening bid was $50.
I decided I wanted it badly enough that I bid $165.
Seven days and 14 bids later, bidding stopped at $142.50.
I won.

It is interesting to watch bottom feeders
bid and bid until they drop out.
Then someone jumps in near the end
with a big bid. Still not enough.

Maybe I paid too much.
What was I thinking?
But it filled a hole in my display board.

I have to stop following this thread.

Man, I nearly bid on that knife. I was willing to pay $250, but figured it would go for way more than that. My usual tactics are either what you did, which would have worked, or to swoop in, which would also have worked. In any case, nice job!

You did not pay too much, as already evidenced in this thread. The seller is kicking themself it went so low. I have one and would pay $150 for that one in an instant (not a solicitation to buy yours. :smlling-eyes ) Just look at the spine with the full liners integrated with the lock. Never to be seen again.

I'm glad someone on here got it. I didn't bid because I thought for sure it would go over $200

IMO you stole it for that price, I didn’t follow it too much but thought it would go for $250 or so. I mean a G10 Manix or Manix XL pushes $200 so a very collectible one I would think would have went higher.

Awesome pickup.

I just looked at Dack and it looks like all the Spydercos are now gone.

Does this have anything to do with the clamping down of MAP as of recent? Looks like we saw individual retailers getting shut down, and then larger shops like Freedom having to drastically alter their operations. Now Dack? Can anyone confirm?

I was hearing quite a few reports of people who had planned a purchase of a new Spyderco now holding off because of some of these policies trickling down to their favorite retailers.

If so, I'm afraid this thread will be relegated to used and non-official (i.e. personal) sales.

MAP is minimum advertised price. Discounts only shown with login or in-basket are explicitly allowed.

I don't think that is correct anymore. Freedom Knife Shop had to drastically alter their in-cart discount policy and switch to a voucher program based on a percentage of purchased knives.

I would be thrilled to be wrong, however.

Spyderco updated their policy this year and I believe the loopholes around MAP are no longer allowed.

Bummer. My income hasn’t kept up with MAP increases. Groceries either for that matter. Guess I’m in a “sell two to buy one” place.

MAP is no more. It is now MEP- Minimum Enforced Pricing, aka vertical price fixing.

Oh good, I was worried I might buy more Spydercos at the price the market will bear.

At this point it would be best if there are only deals linked to discontinued models, etc. and during MEP holidays. Otherwise this thread will basically serve as a honey pot resulting in enforcement action against dealers.

Dealer exclusives can sometimes represent "crazy good deals" (at least they have in the past), but there is usually a thread for them anyway.

Loyalty points are the only tool left for retailer price competition, and since the big boys offer them they can't complain when the little guys offer better terms. Some of my favorite smaller sites don't yet have a loyalty points program, and I fear they will have trouble competing. Hopefully the smaller shops can find a way to incorporate them.

I buy a lot of Spyderco so I can make loyalty programs work for me. People buying one or two a year are the ones who are hit the hardest.
