I think there are a lot of differences in social and family structures now than there were back in the 60s and 70s.

People are easily manipulated by what they read and see on social media and TV. They have no foundation to base reality on or what their moral compass should be telling them.

I am not saying everyone should be going to mass twice a week but back in the 50s and 60s they did, and the fabric of society was LIKE IT OR NOT representative of a church going population.

It's a free for all right now.

What am I doing? I am headed back to Bible study and church tomorrow. I have to meet and be with people that think more like me. Call it whatever you want but modern society (Kardashians and all that glop) is wearing me out.

I used to go to church every Sunday. I kept going until I was 15. Then I stopped. My parents also made me go to catechism every Thursday afternoon after school, which I stopped going to after 8th grade. TBH, I never got anything out of Church or catechism class, except bored.

I KNOW there is a Divine Creator and angelic beings, always believed it. And I know for a fact through my own personal experiences that I've had as an adult, and continue to have. So I no longer follow any specific doctrine, but cheers for those who do. We're all different and it's all good, as long as people aren't judging others' spiritual beliefs. The only spiritual beliefs I'm against across the board are dark side beliefs and practices/rituals that seek to undermine, control, and harm others.

Ive read most of the Bible since 1999. Some of the books and passages dozens of times. Still, I want to hear what the Catholic doctrine is on the Bible.

I just do not know it.

I was involved with the Catholic Church until I was in 5th grade, then I played traveling team hockey and high school hockey for 30+ hours a week, played tennis, bicycle raced, did martial arts and dropped going to church.

I've been to Christian church and a bit of Bible study but no Catholic Church since the 70s. Just trying to get anchored to a doctrine and cautiously, a group.

Looking for good leadership and good people to hang out with.

Good luck in your search, it can be hard to find the right people.

I haven't been to what is typically called a church in probably 13 years. Not because I am irreligious, but partially because people have a hard time accepting that my family has it's own views, partially because people often aren't what they say, and partially because life circumstances just got in the way. I did home church with friends for a bit, I think it was more stressfull for my parents than for me. I always got to see my best friend so I was happy with that for a bit. Then life stuff happened and we do our "church" amongst ourselves since then. Not complaining, my family are great people to talk about most things with, but every once in awhile I wish I could meet a few people with similar veiws. All my close friends no longer live near me, so we do our best to stay connected remotely. "Bible studies" are not uncommon when I get the chance to talk with friends.

This topic is rough. Families are being torn apart.

Apparently my niece, a teen, is experimenting and dating both boys and girls. My brother made a comment to me, and thinking he had expressed dismay to his son, I said to my nephew, "She is following in the footsteps of her aunt..."

Not sure that you can follow all of that. I started WW III accidentally. Nobody is on the same page anymore.

If the Catholics are not what I am looking for, I'll go back to a hard core Christian church.

Relationships can be hard. The best thing I have found to do is genuinely care for everybody's well being, but be unwavering in my own convictions. Unfortunately being true to your beliefs is often enough to serperate you from even the people you care for. Yeah, it can just be hard.

None of my direct family members share any of my interests. So we can talk about certain general things, but I never go into any depth into my thoughts, beliefs, experiences, etc., with any of them. Well actually, occasionally my brother has expressed some interest in stuff I'm into, not martial arts, but some of my spiritual as well as paranormal experiences. But that's extremely rare, and only because he's had some paranormal experiences of his own. I won't be the one to bring it up.

My brother and I do share an interest in music, specifically, '70s music and other classic rock. But then, he's been a lifelong guitarist since the 1960s.

I never discuss my belief systems with any of my family members, nor share much of my personal life with them. I mostly sit quietly and listen to everyone else, and most of them are very talkative anyway. I never discuss spiritual beliefs with them, because I know my brother's and sister's beliefs are not only different from each other's, but mine are way different from either of theirs. We all get along because we don't bring up certain things. I don't proselytize, and I don't like it when people try to proselytize to me, about anything. My sister tried to once or twice, and she learned not to anymore.

I belong to a couple of different groups of people who share both my spiritual and business interests. I've met all of them in person to varying degrees, but we mostly have regular group meetings on Zoom. Because many live in other states, and a couple of the members of one of the groups live in other countries (Germany and Brazil). And as groups, we give each other support, and often offer help with our businesses, and also discuss things we cannot always discuss with family.

Just about everyone has a gut feeling or opinion. Maybe some have logic on their side. Maybe even fewer read a lot about a subject and their depth and breath is deeper.

Just say one word out of place or time and you have people tossing insults at you.

I don't bother signing up with most social media sites. I lurk for years. It's not worth the headaches. With every post you have to include a specific 10 page disclaimer!

I agree when talking about social media groups.

The two groups I belong to were not brought together through social media. One group is through people I’ve known directly since 2016 (which in turn was started by someone I’ve known since 2008). The second group I belong to came about through a yearlong business mastermind course I took in 2024, and who have formed our own private group and network, for for moral (not fake) mutual support in our business ventures, and in helping to promote each other, and support during difficult times. And to exchange information and experiences related to that. So they weren’t through Facebook groups, or whatever other social media people use hoping to connect with people. The interests we share in common are very “niche,” not things that just anybody talks about. And both groups ended up connecting organically.

"I don't know." or "I'm not qualified to answer that." are fine by me.

But giving an opinion should not kick off a huge bruhaha. It's just one person's opinion.

I agree. Who among us IS qualified to answer? That is the question I've pondered for many years. I don't believe there is anyone qualified to answer. You can read the Bible many times throughout your life and never figure out what some of it means. I'm on my second reading and I still get stymied by what I'm reading. Maybe that's as it's supposed to be to keep us reading the Word?

Lots of people in this world think they know everything, or that they have the answer to everything. It’s a big reason I keep to myself most of the time.
