I agree with him 100%, and I would add that he made his point eloquently. There are FAR TOO MANY old rock and popular music stars from the 1960s, '70s, and into the '80s, who keep performing, when it's obvious they are way past their 'use by' date.
Popular music, especially rock music, is made by and for young people. And as we age we still continue to listen to our favorites.
But for the musicians and singers themselves (especially the singers) to try and maintain their personas and auras of 40, 50, or 60 years ago is embarrassing, and it tarnishes their images (IMO).
Of course, if they still want to do it, and suckers are still willing to pay to see them perform, have at it. I couldn't bring myself to do it. It's like seeing the work of any aging athlete, actor, even movie directors. At a certain point, they and their stuff only gets worse.
I recall Grace Slick, when asked if she would ever consider a comeback, answered (and I'm paraphrasing), "No. I'd never perform again. Old people trying to still do rock music just looks embarrassing."
One of the most egregious examples of a singer still performing, who should've stopped DECADES ago, is Frankie Valli. When he's onstage now, he looks like a zombie, and all he can do anymore is barely lip sync the words to old recordings of himself from 50+ years ago. He certainly cannot sing anymore. To a lot of people, he's become a meme, but one that isn't funny, IMHO. At what point is enough enough?

Jim,
There are more than a few out there that look like they passed 20 years ago.
Just saying.

I guess 'Zombie Rock' can be a new genre.
