Shaman Salt

#1

Post by Freediver »

Shaman Salts are starting to hit dealers! Thanks Spyderco for making this happen. Living in a salty environment this is going to be a perfect EDC for me.

First impression out of the box is extremely favorable. The sculpted scales feel great in the hand and are not too aggressive. This is a welcomed feature to have around water. The all blacked out hardware looks sleek. The action is a little stiff but am sure it will break in nicely. This may be the last modern folder I ever need to buy (who am I kidding, I am already eyeing the microjimbo salt).
It rains rust in Hawaii.

Yep this one seems like a winner. Holding the Shaman, it is very comfortable but (to me) those smooth G10 scales are far too slippy. Adding in some of the best texturing Spyderco has done (Salt scales) fixes my biggest critique w/ the Shaman. I'm not necessarily a 'Shaman guy'...but I guess I could be!

Excited to hold this one and see how it compares.

How is the closed position with regard to the tip protruding?

It does not protrude. They did a good job with this one.

The only reason I haven't ordered one yet is because I'm holding out hope that they'll make a Bodacious Salt, and I know that if that happens I probably won't carry the Shaman much anymore. But the urge is really heavy with this one.

if I were a Shaman guy I'd order a pair of these. They look great. Very functional and very good looking. Hope we see all the flag ship models get made this way (Police, Chief, etc.)

Am I the only one who wants a fixed Salt shaman but with a smaller spydie hole since you would not need to open it?!?!🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠

That looks absolutely amazing. I can't wait to try that. I love the G10 scales on these more recent Salt models.

Yes. Yes you are. I've asked the factory. They just smiled. Don't stop believing.

I'm with you. The Bodie Magnacut/Salt, 15V, or Magnamax would all 3 be the most anticipated knives of the year for me, any one of them.

I need to stop checking the general knife discussion section of this forum ... now I've added the Shaman Salt to the very short list of knives I want if/when I ever start buying knives again.

My main focus for such a possibility had been the PM2 Salt, but I've never owned or even handled a Shaman, and I already own two PM2s, even if they're not the Salt version. Plus, the Shsman appears to be a slightly heavier-duty design (I could be wrong, but that's my impression at a glance).

The Shaman with those extra grippy scales is a game changer. The improved safety and grip from the scales with the performance of Magnacut makes this evolution feels more like a Shaman 2 than a variant.

If it was up to me they should offer each and every Spydie in SE, but yes, Salts even more so! (I was quite disappointed that the Manix 2 LW Salt did not get a version with teeth, now it looks like this could become a "trend" with new "Salts"... ? :/ )

/ That said: The Shaman Salt looks really cool indeed!
But, perhaps unpopular opinion: I would like it even better if it came in the FRN dressing of the lightweight version - those scales look really grippy too, FRN to me is just an even better handle material than G10 and the weight saving is though not massive still nice to have (4.8 vs 5.2 oz)

Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

It’s very tempting, but has been said the lightweight Shaman would been an instant buy , basically for the reduction in weight. The scales look like they would be a better platform switching clip to left side of scales . MG2
MNOSD 0002 / Do more than is required of you . Patton

I was excited for the manix salt.
Till I opened it in the sellers site, realized there’s no teeth.
Nah I have several manix pe, I really was turned off at the notion of not having se on the manix.

I do like the look of the frn scales, usually I prefer g10.
Depends on the knife.
I’m not sure how it feels in hand.

I think the "Lightweight" in "Shaman Lightweight" is carrying more weight than the knife lost on the scale. :grin-squint The Shaman Lightweight is lighter than the G10 Shaman but only by 0.4 ounces (5.2 oz vs. 4.8 oz). The difference more noticeable on paper than in your pocket.

Image

The fishbone pattern on the Shaman Salt feels so good with the smooth shaman scales. :star-struck The fine pebbled texture on the Shaman LW actually feels like it would be perfect for a Salt as well.

Thanks Nick for info regarding weight between the two models . Only have one Shaman and never has been an issue carry in pocket so a Salt version in G10 may just work for me . I may wait to see if a yellow / black plain blade comes out in the future . All black version looks fantastic though . Dan
