Bodacious first Sprint and exclusive?

Im with you guys here. Not a fan of the shaman for all the reasons listed. I love the bodacious. It’s one of the best spyderco designs out there imo, especially for phre performance

Did someone at Spyderco mention the Bodacious not selling well? I don't recall that, so I think any speculation of sales is just an assumption.

For me personally, I love it. My dream would be to see a choiless Military variety and maybe a Native/Native Chief back lock variety. Either way, I'll be happy if it is just the Bodacious staying on the production table.

I think people just project their own feelings into reality sometimes. I'm sure it didn't fly off shelves on launch due to the cost but I don't think we'd be seeing custom scales if it wasn't selling.

I personally prefer the Bodacious to the Shaman by a WIDE margin.
I also prefer the Bodacious to the PM2 or Military 2.
I do wish the Bodacious had more tip coverage when closed. It won’t take a whole lot of sharpening to end up with a proud tip. I’d suggest addressing this in CQI with a slight scale design change making the scales a tiny bit taller where the knife tip is when the knife is closed.

I really like that it’s thinner, lighter, and is a better looking piece without the tip down clip screw hole of the Shaman.
I like the Bo’ scales as is. I am a frequent consumer of aftermarket scales, but I haven’t wanted to swap these.
And most importantly, It cuts very well.

I hope we see new Bodacious variants with MagnaCut, s90v or 15v (15v coated if there are no major drawbacks to its performance).

The Bodacious has become my daily carry in knife friendly environments. It’s my “Goldilocks” between the PM2, M2 and Shaman. It’s approximately the size of the PM2, with the edge length approaching that of the M2 and a blade that is more robust than that of the PM2 but not as thick as the one on the Shaman.

As a side note: I wish we saw more uncoated s90v in general. How do others feel about s90v? I live by the gulf coast so stainless steel blades are a big plus for me.

Well it sounds like many would immediately change the scales anyway...
But I could get on board with that. I've got a Knifeworks dk green Manix 2 in 204P that I like, kind of the same thing.

Not unless they made the blade short enough to clear the end of the back spacer, but then the edge would also probably move into the lanyard tube space too. Besides all that it could probably be done if they gave it some kind of extra big kick that stops the blade from closing as far and then it would stop on the same place as the current blade shape, but would also then stick out further. This is basically how the Caribbean sheepsfoot works vs the leaf blade.

I had this same question today, since it occurred to me that a Wharncliffe Bodacious would be like a gentleman's Yojimbo/Yojumbo (halfway between these two on edge length). I looked at my Bo', and came to the same first conclusion: shorten the blade by about a quarter-inch, and it then fits past the back spacer - and it needs to, or the blade sticks out way out from the handle when folded.

But then the blade would cut a lanyard, since there is no actual lanyard tube on the Bo'. How does the Yo' series design deal with that? Looked at my Yojumbo...answer: no lanyard hole.

I would be sorely tempted by a Wharncliffe Bodacious.

I already have one actually, just got a custom wharnie blade made. I'll post some pics soon. Most probably won't like it because the blade sticks out from the handle quite a bit, but I think some changes to the back spacer could allow the blade to close into the handle more.

This is the main issue I had with the Bodacious. It's something I feel like has become a much larger problem with Spydercos in the past couple years, even models that didn't used to have issues with it. Both my S30V Bodacious and Salt Sage 5 arrived with tips that I could almost catch the tip with them straight out of the box, then a whole ordeal with the Salt LW Manix 2 I made a thread about before. It's now the first thing I check for on any new Spyderco.

I wasn't sure how I wanted to build this so I just stuck it in my DLC handle. I'm not sure if changing the back spacer to stand-offs would make a difference in how far the blade can close, because that last screw will still be in the way so it's either the blade sticks out or they shorten the blade to clear it, personally I'd rather keep the edge length and deal with a pocket hog. But I do think a wharnie works awesome with this handle, they could use a much less dramatic spine shape (the typical curved spine like the Endura/Delica wharnies use) and it would be much less broad when closed.
